free agent GO 500 GB NOT recognized Seagate Manager -> Win 7/64 device manager & driver OK

[ Edited ]

I've used this drive before on XP PRO, and now in Win 7/64 Seagate Manager doesn't see drive at all. Need to get to its ENCRYPTED folder.

Win 7/64 bit Device manager and drivers are OK

Model number: Seagate FreeAgent GO 500gb

S/N: [Edited: Removed personal information per the community rules and regulations.]

Firmware: 0001BSM1

Searched all over the net but couldn't find the answer.

thanks in advance

Plug it in at boot time, then go to disk management and assign it a drive letter, should be visible then and you won't have to format it to get it to show.

[ Edited ]

EDIT:sorry about posting S/N number

I should mention that windows sees the drive and this drive has assigned number. See attachment.

I can go in the drive and do whatever, but can't OPEN encrypted folder. On SEAGATE STATUS ICON [Which I've used to get in encryption] there is an option but I CAN'T click on ENCRYPTION. There is only SEAGATE MANAGER,EDIT BACKUP SETTINGS and EXIT option I can use.Others are not use-able.

Today SEAGATE MANAGER was even disappearing when opened.

[SOLVED]

thanks to this thread I fiexd it,Seagate service was not running ........

message #10 user ferraroj:

I found that there is a service that had to be started before the manager will see the connected drive.  Go to the controller panel->administrative Tools->Services, in the last of services look for Seagate and ensure that it is started

Re: free agent GO 500 GB NOT recognized Seagate Manager -> Win 7/64 device manager & driver O

Thank you so much, baachor!  I had exactly the same problem (Windows XP would recognize my FreeAgent/GO, but Seagate Manager would not), until I found that the Seagate Service was disabled.  This had been bugging me for over a month.
