i Bought the free agent Desktop(500 gb) about 3 weeks ago, copied a bunch of files on it (about 300 Gb) and then i stopped using it.
last week i bought a ps3 and i wanted to connect the drive to it so i could access my files and it didnt work (after searching on the internet, i noticed that it was because the ps3 can only read FAT file system). So i connected it back to my computer with the intent of copying back my files and reformat the hard drive to FAT32 but the drive was never detected neither by the driver neither by windows drive management. The weird thing is that when i connect the drive, the light on the drive turns on and i can hear the drive spin for a few seconds but afterward it stops.
I tried connecting the drive on my laptop, on my linux partition, but whitout success, if anyone could help me, i wqould be in dept cause i dont want to loose all of my files!
I had the same issue. I accidentally found my problem. While moving around some cables, I plugged my Seagate into the wall outlet which had previously worked fine in a surge protector strip and it just magically was able to be seen again. Worked fine before then suddenly stopped so I was surprised there was a difference. A further test after plugging it back into the strip proved that it cannot be detected. Moving it back to the wall outlet corrected it. Don't understand why but hope it helps solve your problem as well.
