seagate Freeagent Desk mac chipset?

Hi, I'd like to buy a 500 gigs Freeagent Desk for Mac but I can't find out what chipset is used on it. Is it the Oxford 911 (1394 communication)? I need to know it 'couse I'm using a software witch has compatibility issues with other chipsets, but works fine with 911 or 924.

Thanks in advance, I don't know much about this

Since Seagate markets this for the Mac there should be no issues. Newegg.com has good reviews of the drive. I would recommend the The Go or place the Desk model flat to avoid problems I've read about if a drive is knocked over.  If you have an older Mac check the Firewire Spec.  If the drive is not compatible return it and let us know the software and model to help others. And as always have a backup.

Don't count on it. For example, Western Digital markets the My Book Studio for the Mac. I bought one, and guess what? It's not compatible with Power PC Macs (G4 etc.) for starting up or booting from. You can't use it to make a bootable backup. How stupid is that? So I'm planning to return it and get the Seagate FreeAgent Desk Mac. I've heard that it is bootable. But I don't know specifically what the chipset is. I'll let you know what I find out when I buy it...

 

One other thing, it's most likely a bad idea to place the Desk model flat, as that would interfere with the passive cooling system.

I can't tell what chipset is in the drive, the System Profiler just says "Seagate". But it's been working great for me, it's bootable on my PPC machine. I recommend it.

This is a simple question WHAT CHIPSET DOES YOUR PRODUCT USE?  If i wanted to know if it will probably work, I would of asked the sales person at Office Depo.  Is there a real technician from Seagate that can tell me the actual chipset of the feeagent go?
