using Seagate Freeagent 1TB on clean Vista reinstall

[ Edited ]

Not sure how to put this but here goes.

I have a 1TB Seagate Freeagent that has been backing up all my stuff and two other users on this pc for some time now and has been fantastic but then I had to reinstall Vista and I have a question.

Obviously all the data was safe and I have dragged all the stuff off and put it all back where it belongs.

Now I have installed the Seagate Manager software and setup the folders etc that I had previously but what do I do next. Will it know that the same users have already got backed up data or not, or will I have to remove the backups and start again as if it were brand new and unused?

I was hoping it would see the old users and backup the difference but I don't think it will. I just want to use the existing stuff and add to that.

The backup folder was called Dellstudio/Users/....

Now there is a folder called Dellstudio(1)/users/....

I want to be able to use the original Dellstudio folders.

Hope this makes sense!

Re: using Seagate Freeagent 1TB on clean Vista reinstall

I contacted Seagate. They said that this product can only back up data and can not restore. I asked them what good is that and they did not have an answer. I am very upset with the quality of this product and urge others not to use their software for data back up and restore. I just hope the hard drive does not crash on me too!
