I setup a new Freeagent Go portable drive with a win98se pc, it asked to install new hardware, I did, also downloaded the win98 portable drivers from Seagate, they installed successfully,
But the drive is not showing in "my computer" ...........it does show in "device manager" which also says it's working properly and the newest driver is installed. I can uncouple it from the icon in the tray which recognizes it too as Seagate Freeagent...
Just can't find it listed as a drive though.
I've done the unplugging, removing act.........
Thanx - Greg

In my experience, it's hit-or-miss as far as Win98SE and newer external hard drives, because few of them have drivers anymore. Your using the older drive's drivers is a smart move, and it might work. If it doesn't, though, it's because 98 is so old, sorry to say.
One obvious thing is that I believe these drives come preformatted NTFS. Launch FDISK. Switch it over to the FA drive. Delete its current partition. Then make a partition with FDISK (FDISK makes FAT32, which 98 can read).
