I have latest firmware and have reinstalled it a second time.
AVI's are video clips from my digital camera. They are DV Type2 AVI and use codec dvsd DVC/DV Video
I have no trouble with them running on other players. I tried both browsing from my PC harddisk and viewing from a USB drive. The files show up but when selected don't play. If the folder contains files that are of a different container type (wmv, mpeg,mp4 ) the avi file won't play but the next wmv, mpeg and etc. will instead.

You wil have to convert your DV-AVI file. The FAT+ will not read those files and doesn't accept DVSD codec.
Here's a list of DV to AVI converts:

Thank you for the quick reply. I have over 150 video clips in the type-2 AVI container format. These are maintained without conversion to limit artifacts prior to being used as a part of future projects.
Since FAT+ does support AVI but doesn't support type-2 do you know of a listing of the FOURCC codes of the codec's it does support?
Thank you, Don

This doesn't actually show the containers with the codec's acceptable for each container, but this is all that is availible. However, if you want to convert your DV type 2 files to AVI, you can use AutoGK to convert them to AVI (MPEG4) which is acceptable. Or you can convert them using HANDBRAKE to convert to MKV or MP4 (H.264 or MPEG4).
