Can I play mkv videos?

I have a Seagate Goflex TV station. I really like it, except a lot of my media is in mkv. Whenever I play the mkv videos on it, I can hear sound but there is no video. Searching around it seems the player is unable to play mkv, so is there a new firmware or mod for this problem? If I remember correctly the box said it could play mkv. Thank you!
