Currently, network video and music files are not indexed, only local drive. It's been one of the feature requests for a very long time, but never was responded by the Seagate team, nor any indication that will be implemented in the furture.

Despite the user manual explicitly saying,
That's really annoying. Especially because browsing a network share isn't particularly easy (browse -> network -> shortcuts -> computer -> folder... five clicks, with a fairly noticeable delay for most of them)...
In fact, given the combination of these two problems, I'm tempted to return the device. Which would be a shame; I'm really liking everything else so far... but either network media needs to be indexed, or network shortcuts need to be much easier to use. As is, it's a stretch to list "access network media" as a feature...

just wondering if there's an update on this feature. I have the same issue. Should also be able to select a network path for a share (so that you don't have to navigate multiple directory levels to get to the content you want). I was forced to create additional shares (and to name them starting with _ to get them to show up at the top because of all of the administrative shares that it shows for some reason.
Also - why would the manual specifically state this as a feature if it's not true?
