So I don't want to buy the overpriced $60 wireless USB Seagate branded adapter.
I've been trying other 3rd party USB wireless adapters - so far without success.
I have the most up to date firmware on the FAT+ (the youtube update)
Here's what I've tried so far:
Belkin G (F5D7050) 802.11b/g - Didn't work (LED didn't lite up on the adapter)
NetGear WG111 - Didn't work (LED didn't lite up on the adapter)
Anyone have any success or try others that didn't work? Maybe 802.11n would have better luck since that's what the official one is.
By the way, Seagate Tech Support wouldn't give me any clues, but offered this helpful tidbit - "We don't support 3rd party adapters, but you can just try other ones and see if they work".....

Hello
I'm from Switzerland and I've same problem. I tried a WLAN Adapter from Zyxel, NWD-271N, which supports 802.11n.
Without any succes.
The Seagate support wrote me that my Theater+ appears to be defect. So I replaced my one with a new at the shop.
But I've still the same problem.
The Seagate Support said they've no experience with incompatibility. It should function with every adapter...(?!!)
I understand a lot about computer, WLAN etc. But I didn't find the bug.
Do you still have the same problem? Did you solve the problem?

These 2 threads covered this subject thoroughly. The bottom line is yes, there are Wifi adapters other than
Seagate's that will work with the FAT+. Also other alternatives: gaming adapters, and wireless bridges.

I bought an AirLink101 Wireless 11N Mini USB adapter 150Mbps uploading/downloading (AWLL5077) and it's working well on my FAT+, It's onsale at Meritline.com for $17.99 - $8 coupon +0.97 tax = $10.96

Hi all, I am a new owner of the Theatre + . Found these two usb Wifi adaptors to work fine no issues so far.
Trednet TEW-649UB, "N" streams HD content from Netflix no problems, this is a small 1.3 inch adaptor. $19.99 CompUSA
Patriot PCBOWAU2 G, "G" streams HD content from Neflix no problems, standard thumb drive size $29.99 CompUSA
The Trednet has a better receiver finding more signals in my neighborhood. Guess which one I am keeping.
My tv is 42" LCD set to 720p although no issues set to 1080p
Regards
Mike

Hi Mike
Did you test both of them? The Trendnet Adapter is available in my country.
If you're telling me it's working, I'll buy this adapter :-)))
Thank you.

Yes, I have tested "both" adaptors on my Theatre +.
Both the Trednet and Patriot were recognzed immediatly by the Theatre +. Both would stream Netflix HD no problem.
I do have a 10mb download speed from my IP. I chose to keep the Trednet for a couple of reasons.
It is an "N" adaptor the other is "G". I have an "N" wireless router in my house. The Trednet was on sale for $20.00 the
other normal price at $30.00.
Hope this helps.

Hello!
The FAT+ includes drivers for 3 Realtek wireless chipsets - 11n8709, rtl8187 and rtl8191su. You'll be able to see this in:
/lib/modules/2.6.12.6-VENUS/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/realtek
Someone could probably hack in more drivers...
Otherwise, USB wifi dongles from other media player manufacturers based on the same Realtek 1073 or 1283 chipset will work. Check the list at iboum.com.
I use HornetTek HT-2223BK, which is large and only 802.11 b/g, but cost about $13. You'll note it uses the RT8187B.
