Can anyone confirm what firmware is shipping with new(retail) FAT+ ?
According to this thread, it is 1.55.
I haven't received mine yet, and need to know if it is preinstalled with the crippled, non-rollback 1.55.

In case anyone else is curious about this, I found the answer from Newegg reviews. The FAT+ is shipping with 1.55, so for now it’s refuse/return to sender.
I hope Seagate is successful with future firmware updates, but I must say, I’m floored with the posts I’ve read in this forum and elsewhere.
PlayOn not working, USB not working, HDMI/Denon problems, Win7/XP networking issues, Netflix streaming at low quality; it’s just too much of a risk.
Good Luck everyone

You're dime bud....but when you get it try hooking it up WITHOUT it being connected to your network. If it turns out to be a FW less than 1.55 it won't auto update it and you can enter the settings menu and turn off auto update and then connect to the network.
You might also find out that you like the unit despite it's faults and that not ALL of them are experiencing ALL of these problems. I've had BOTH of mine since FW 1.26 and am now beta testing 2.20 and I still have not had most of the problems others have had. Playon does work but yea there are minor little things that occur, I have NEVER had a USB problem with either of mine and had a 500gb WD external drive with 40,000+ mp3's hooked up on the USB ports trying to get it to fail and it didn't.
Over all, I would say I'm happy with BOTH of mine but still wish the firmware had been left open for those that like playing around with it. I just like seeing how creative some folks can be!
Good luck with whatever brand you end up with but keep in mind that ANY of them are going to have their own inherent problems and your final choice will probably boil down to be about what can YOU deal with. *I* can deal with this!
