I couldn't get Win 8 network file sharing working with my Goflex TV or my other media player even though I can log in OK with my Android tablet.
But... Media Server works fine. I can access all my media over UPnP.

try the tool, windows 8 forces more through SMB2 than windows 7
the registry entries will be the same.
I will install windows 8 on my spare machine and start debugging and add anything i find to the tool.....

Man-oh-man, what has micro$oft done, there seems to be a THIRD layer of security protocols all tied into the homegroup sharing, i am beginning to think Micro$oft are trying to knock off any third party network connections for everything except $box and Media Centre sharing to other Micro$oft products, Guess they are taking a page from Apple's lock it down and screw em for every cent mentality......
I have spent a few hours looking and trying Registry keys, then Groups then Users then adding users in groups to shares......
I will try again tomorrow, anything i do find will go into the tool, including any How too's if i cant use Registry hacks.

Another 24 hours gone and still no luck, there is next to nothing except from Micro$oft, and thats no help, Windows 8 Totally sucks if you dont use Micro$oft attachments.

Thanks for taking the time to look in to this, Trubbleguy.
As I mentioned I have no problem connecting to my Win8 Pro shares with Android or Ubuntu Linux, but the GoflexTV can't log in, so I'm not sure the problem is with Win8 or the GoflexTV.
For me it's not an issue anyway as I run a Goflex Home media server and I can connect with DLNA to win8 shares if I ever need to.

FWIW, I installed virtualbox and loaded up a copy of vista and was able to configure it to work with FAT+. So now I have to fire up vista in virtualbox in windows 8 and copy my media to the virtual hard drive that FAT+ can see. Crazy!
