Re: FREEAGENT + (A Guide to get the most out of your FAT+)

Thanks for the answer, it was exactly what i was wondering.

Another thing i was curious about is the shortcuts.  Can they actually point to a specific folder(share) or is it limited to a shortcut to the whole computer?

Re: FREEAGENT + (A Guide to get the most out of your FAT+)

HI all

I use the FAT+ in Europe and I have updated the firmware to the last (2.20).

It work fine in my house with a standart network but the problem is that the FAT+ is for my mother.

In their house, the network is based on powerline (electrical network see http://www.devolo.de/consumer/dlan-das-stromnetzwerk-die-heimvernetzung-via-homeplug.html?l=de). I don't  no if this is the problem but it seems that because it work fine in my house. The problem is that when I start the FAT+ with the RJ45 network cable plugged, the FAT+ screen apparear one second and after is switched black and is frozen, no possible to switch off with the telecommand, we need to unplug the power cable. The only way to start the system is to unplug the RJ45, plug the power cable and start the FAT+, when is started and the normal windows (main menu) is showed, it is now possible to plug the RJ45 cable to have the access to the network. It work with this principle but it is not very usefull at all. Any body have the same problem ?

Re: FREEAGENT + (A Guide to get the most out of your FAT+)

Using a powered wireless connection shouldn't be a problem, however, you may have a bad cable.  If one on the RJ45 connectors on the cable is bad, this could cause your problem, so you may want to try a different cable first.

Also, if you have a question like this, it is best to start it in a new thread, this thread is for posting HOW TO's & you will get more answers if you start a thread with your question in the subject.

Re: FREEAGENT + (A Guide to get the most out of your FAT+)

Hi there,

I am new to the thread, so my apologies if the question was asked before. I haven't had a chance to read thru all the information yet.

Firstly, it was unclear to use the Modded files require the Freeagent Theater+ device to be at "a particular firmware version".

Assuming if I just purchased the Freeagent Theater+ today, and if it was shipped from the factory with firmware version Y, and assuming that to use the Modded files, you need to be on firmware version X, so how does someone get to install firmware version X ?

It's not clear from this thread how does someone downgrade to a older version (or get a copy of an older firmware) of firmware in order to use the Modded files.

Any help or clarification is appreciated.

Thanks in advance....

Re: FREEAGENT + (A Guide to get the most out of your FAT+)

A great addition to the FAT+ (if you don't have a Seagate Go drive) is to free that dock's mini-USB port by buying a female mini-USB to female standard USB adapter: http://www.meritline.com/female-miniusb-female-usb-adapter-472---p-30323.aspx

You can just use a standard USB cable to make use of that free port (although it may look ugly)!

Thanks to http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~ecc/dockstar-howto.html for the idea.

Re: FREEAGENT + (A Guide to get the most out of your FAT+)

I followed this guide to allow my FAT+ to view shares on my Windows 7 PC. I can now see my shares, however, I can see EVERYTHING. As in my C drive is shared as C$, D as D$, etc.

Can I not limit it to just shared folders? Can I not specify a user/password and only have it see the shares those users are limited to?

With this solution, it seems my only option is to remove all sharing security from my PC and leave everything exposed. Also, seeing all my drives as C$, D$, etc makes it very cluttered.

I just want to share three folders (Movies, TV Episodes, Music) and specify a user/pass that ONLY shows those 3 shares.

Can this not be accomplished? I like how the player shows movies, but geting to my movies is another matter...

Just set your folder permissions to not share the folders that you don't want to share.

Re: FREEAGENT + (A Guide to get the most out of your FAT+)

Those with a $ are system shares, not the user-defined shares.

I see those too but when I click on them, I get a request for user/pass (same as initial login) but it says login failed.  So, while they appear, I am unable to access them.

- Please search the forums first and remember, these are COMMUNITY forums so don't expect Seagate techs to trot out some new firmware update because you don't like something. To be honest, they don't even visit these forums. Be nice, verbose, and mindful.
- There are sticky threads that can also answer many of your questions
- Reinstall firmware with the COLD METHOD

Re: FREEAGENT + (A Guide to get the most out of your FAT+)

if you use an administrator account, you will be able to access C$ etc. create a limited account and share only folders that you want to the limited account.
