File sorting over the network

Sucks, I'm looking at the date, last modified, file size, file name, and there appears to be no rhyme or reason as to how these files are sorted.  I just received my theater+ today, and updated to 1.27 firmware, and it made no difference.  Although the product seems to work well with my HD files, I'm going to return it if there is no fix.  The file sorting is just too annoying to deal with especially when you are trying to watch your sequential camcorder files that are ordered by filename.

Re: File sorting over the network

The file sorting is a long-standing bug that Seagate seems to be unable (or unwilling) to fix.  This and the other silly bug of showing hidden directories (names starting with a dot) seriously spoil what could otherwise be a solid product.  None of the other competing product I've looked at have these silly problems (WDTV Live, ASUS O!Play).

Re: File sorting over the network

This bug HAS to get fixed.  It is sooo much of a hassle to go through pages of unsorted files in order to find the video clip that I want to play out.  This 'sorting' is BASIC CS101 programming.  Come on Seagate, this is really ridiculous.  Just sort the folders by name first, then sort the files by name next.

I did find one other thread about someone being able to fix this on their home-brew NAS by doing somethign to the file system there, but for people like me that have a closed-box NAS (like ReadyNAS), that is not an option, and Seagate must do this through their interface.

Re: File sorting over the network

I ended up sending mine back to amazon, I just couldn't handle it anymore.  I bought a wonderhd unit, and I must say, this thing is amazing.  Maybe once seagate fixes the sorting I'll pick up a few units for the other rooms in my house.

I'll just be another person to add to this thread to say to Seagate, "Please fix the sorting problem."

Re: File sorting over the network

I just got one of these things this week as I heard about the new Netflix firmware.  So this is a long standing issue, eh?  Lousy.

At least for MP3, it seems to be displaying the songs on an album in alphabetical order, but PLAYING them in album order.  What a mess!

Changes between 01.45 and 01.55:

  1. Added Netflix support.
  2. Display MP3 music thumbnail extracted from MP3 ID3 tag.
  3. Sort file name A~Z on Browser mode.

Re: File sorting over the network

my issue is that whatever video file I choose with any of the media servers in the house (windows 7 64 bit, windows hoe server, play-on) all of the indices are off. I have to pick a file at random and fast forward next video to next video until the one I want comes up. I do not have this issue on the PS3 or the samsung blu-ray player. I feel that I really made a mistake getting two of these for use in the house.

You forgot something:

- FW closed down and encrypted

- No network file acces to the FAT+ possible

I'm happy to have the EMEA version...
