Re: Firmware Update 1.45 (EMEA & APAC only) (UPDATE US VERSION)

First of all, what does EMEA and APAC stand for? Next, is 1.45 available or not for the US market? I tried loading the SW with the "Cold method" last night and it didn't take. The orange light kept flashing and flashing. Why is 1.45 not available as an online download?

BTW except for a couple bugs, the FAT+ seem to work fine for streaming movies from the 500mb GO drive on board. It would be nice to access that drive through my network so I could discontinue hauling it back and forth to my media PC. Does 1.45 address that issue?

Thanks

Re: Firmware Update 1.45 (EMEA & APAC only) (UPDATE US VERSION)

First, EMEA stands for Europe, the Middle East and Africa - APAC stands for Asia, Pacific, Austrialia, and China.

Second, yes, you can get the 1.45 FW for the US HERE.  I don't know why it is not showing up on the download page, someone seems to be laying down on their job.

Third, if you are installing the firmware using the (Cold Method, which is the only way it will install correctly) then when the orange light flashes it is doing what it is suppose to.  Be patient, it takes a while to install.

Forth, if you are having problems accessing your network, see my post HERE, it might help you get over your problem.  If you mean, can you access your drive attached to your FAT+ through your PC, then NO it doesn't let you.  You'll probably have to wait for a playdude 1.45 FW mod to do that.

Re: Firmware Update 1.45 (EMEA & APAC only) (UPDATE US VERSION)

Thanks, that clears things up. I'll try it again with the "CM" and let things run for awhile. How long, 30 minutes? I DO want to access the FAT+ through my network, that was one of the major reasons I purchased this initially. Unfortunately I don't have the knowhow to install someone else's SW. What I meant by "online", was from my Internet provider.

Re: Firmware Update 1.45 (EMEA & APAC only) (UPDATE US VERSION)

I think it took mine about 10 or 15 minutes to install, I wasn't watching the clock so I don't really know for sure.  I believe that the main page will come up once it has finished.  As for installing playdudes mod 1.45 FW, you just do it the same as you would the regular firmware, it is really the same FW it's just has additions like Telnet & Samba which you would have to learn to use so that you can access your FAT+ from your PC.

Re: Firmware Update 1.45 (EMEA & APAC only) (UPDATE US VERSION)

I tried the cold method again last night and let it run for 45 minutes. Still no success, but since the FAT+ works all right with v1.26, maybe I'll just forget about it. I wish it would find the movies on my GO drive without having to turn the unit off then on, however. Thanks again for your help.

Re: Firmware Update 1.45 (EMEA & APAC only) (UPDATE US VERSION)

Did you check to make sure that you only extracted the "install.img" file to your USB stick, not the zip file?  And are you using a black stick?

Re: Firmware Update 1.45 (EMEA & APAC only) (UPDATE US VERSION)

I did use a blank USB stick and including only the 106,281KB IMG file. I unplugged the FAT+>removed the GO drive>stuck the USB drive in the USB slot in the FAT+>held the reset button and simultaneously connected the FAT+ power connection>waited for SEAGATE screen to show on the plasma>released the reset button>waited 40 minutes while the yellow FAT+ light flashed>nothing. I took a look at the USB drive afterwards and it had created a .Theater folder to accompany the IMG file. Should I have let it go longer?

Update of 1.45 US Firmware Duration

I updated the FAT+ with the US 1.45 firmware twice.  Both time it took 3-5 minutes.

The second time was my accident because I was just trying to reset the FAT+.  I had forgotten that you just need to press the reset button to reset it.  I assumed if I held the reset button while plugging in the power without any USB flash drive connected, the FAT+ will just reset without performing an upgrade.  However, the yellow light just kept on flashing for the longest time, until I plugged in the USB flash drive with the .img file.  It appears that if you hold the reset button while plugging in the power, the FAT+ will look to upgrade the firmware by trying to find the .img file.

Maybe your FAT+ cannot find the .img file.  I have other files and folders on my USB flash drive in addition to the .img file, but, the .img file is at the root.

Re: Update of 1.45 US Firmware Duration

Thanks guys, it worked. I found that the IMG file I had on the original USB had become corrupted somehow so I downloaded the US file again. I unzipped it to a new USB>unplugged FAT+>reset and plugged FAT+ in simultaneously>inserted USB with the IMG file>it updated. Appreciate your perserverence.

Re: Firmware Update 1.45 (EMEA & APAC only) (UPDATE US VERSION)

Hi Timwable,

What is the deal with you and "COLD" method to download the fw :-)?  That is not the ONLY way to download the firmware correctly.  You only need the Cold method when you have trouble with previous fw upgrade.

Unless you know something like inside info from Seagate development team, I don't think cold method is a must.
