Hey Vu,
What's with the attitude? No, I don't know anything thing from the inside, but it is a matter of numbers, as in the number of people that have had problems upgrading using the FAT+ firmware updater. Yes, you can upgrade using the FAT+ and you might get lucky, but if you want less headaches, then the Cold Method is the way to go.

Vu,
COLD UPGRADE is a must. Since you're a frequent poster, if you don't know that by now, we can't help ya ![]()

Hi. I purchase my FAT+ at the beginning of March 2010. I did not use it much until now. It seems to work well except for one thing and that's the weather. I will post my questions about the weather somewhere else. I have read how to "cold update" but before I read about that process I had already updated the firmware using the online procedure. All seemed to go well. I am also interested in the movie shut off issue as well as the idle shut off time. I will be testing my unit and watching for other's results. As a media player I am impressed. I could view my made DVD ISO files, neat!

Hi guys,
"COLD UPGRADE is a must. Since you're a frequent poster, if you don't know that by now, we can't help ya"
That is fine with me. You can do whatever you want with your box! All those engineers that made the FAT+ say it is not a must and it is just a way to recover your box once you brick it during the fw update process. Who do I trust, the one that make the box or the ones that are learning how to use the box?
I am sorry if it appears that I have some attitude. I am just like you, sharing my opinions. I could be wrong, but I might be right.

"it is a matter of numbers, as in the number of people that have had problems upgrading using the FAT+ firmware updater."
What is your number? 21 guys got no problem with fw upgrade using the cold method in this forum? Do you have the number of people that have no problem upgrading the fw using the "read the manual" way? I don't think Seagate sells 21 of these boxes. I think like thousands at least.
Cold Method is the safest way to upgrade firmware? Yes, but not the easiest way to upgrade the firmware. In fact it is the pain and I hate it. I only do it if I have no other choice!

Not sure about luck, but you agree with me that Cold Method is NOT the only way! I rest my case. :-)
LOL, I am just messing with you man. Don't take it personally.

No, I don't have the exact number. But according to the "views" on these post, there are thousands that are looking for solution to problems that don't post. Just because you didn't hear a sound when the tree fell in the forrest, it doesn't mean that it didn't make a sound.
And if you would have read the posts here, you would know that most of the problems, that people have had who have posted here, has been from using the FAT+ Auto Updater and that their problems were solved when they did a Cold Upgrade.
"All those engineers that made the FAT+ say it is not a must and it is just a way to recover your box once you brick it during the fw update process. Who do I trust, the one that make the box or the ones that are learning how to use the box?"
OH yes, lets trust the guys that can't even do a simple thing like file sorting.

So, taking 5 minutes every 6 months or so to do a Cold Upgrade is a pain? So, do you actually wash your dishes or do you just throw them in the garbage and buy new ones?
"Not sure about luck, but you agree with me that Cold Method is NOT the only way! I rest my case"
There is also more than one way to "skin a cat", as the saying goes. But doing it with a spoon will probably make a mess of things.

This is the sign of anger causing you to loose logic!

I already told you NOT to take it personally! Did I? I will not continue with this thread. You are not fun to chat with.
