Re: I bricked my FAT+

Prairie,

Interesting thought, I tried that, held down reset for about 20 seconds and not a flicker on the screen, so my guess is the mode didn't change.

I'm starting to think this little puppy might have gone to gosh !!

Sal, sounds like it's time to flash the US Rescue FW 1.55! See prairiedog's sticky thread above (FW 101 section). Remember, there is always a possibility that you'll be stuck with US FW, but better than a bricked box :-)

Re: I bricked my FAT+

Thanks for the pointer bodhi,  I'll give that a go tonight.

You're right - any firmware is better than the brick I have now !

Re: I bricked my FAT+

Sal, also worth mentioning.  I have had problems with the reset on my GoFlexTV.  The last time I did a cold install of firmware it took me 3 or 4 tries.  I don't know if it was the precision screwdriver I was using or what but it just wouldn't reset.  Could be just sensitive on how the reset tool is positioned?  Just a thought.

Re: I bricked my FAT+

Hi Jim,

Thanks for that thought, but I'm curious about your mention of a "tool". The only tool I am using is my own clumsy finger to hit the reset button ! Maybe the button is a bit different on the Go Flex, but on the FAT+ the button protrudes and I don't think I need a tool to press it in, but maybe that's part of my problem!

Anyway, I tried the US 1.55 firmware process recommended above and that made some progress in that it seemed to recognise the image on the USB and it tried to install it, and reported that it was trying to do that, but the end result was the same. Just the Seagate logo on the screen and the orange power LED flashing.

If anyone else has any brilliant ideas, I'm all ears !!!

Sal,

When you said "it reported that it was trying to do that", what was showing on the screen?  after that, when was the Seagate logo appear? was there any count down or message that you can copy down and post here?

Also, can you tell while the FAT+ being stuck with the logo, did your router assign an IP address for the FAT+? If the FAT+ actually got an IP address at that point, you can try to telnet in.  I know, this is farfetched, but we don't really know what causes this "Seagate Logo stuck on screen" problem :-) I'm trying to "see" if it even got through the booting process after the flashing (if it was done). Usually, when the flashing sequence starts, the update message appears, and then the blank screen for a "long" time (be patient), then shows a counting down message, then reboots.

Re: I bricked my FAT+

Sal, I think you are OK.  The GoFlexTV has the hole you stick a paperclip into to reset.  Similar to the manual eject used by some CD/DVD Rom drives.  It looks like you've made some progress though, at least your seeing something on the screen...:smileyfrustrated:

Re: I bricked my FAT+

I am also facing similar issue.

I am in india and I tried upgrading firmware (after 2 years of my purchase), from 1.26 to 2.23 of APAC (this is the only and latest firmware I found in seagate site).

* First tried through usb and menu->settings option via remote. Installed but the yellow led is flashing with a seagate logo stuck on tv.

* Next tried the cold boot update (connected usb, pressing the reset button and switched on the power). Installation went on but still same result of led flasing wiht a seagate logo on tv screen

Expecting a suitable way to turn the brick box to usable atleast.

How can i get same 1.26 or 2.20 of APAC to try with cold boot?

Re: I bricked my FAT+

* Initial firmware at the time of purchase (Oct2010) - 1.26
* I updated the firmware from 1.26 to 2.23 (APAC) but it was not working - Please refer my post above.
* Then downloaded 2.20 and installed (cold boot - usb with firmware inserted, holding the reset button, switch on the power) - Jun2012.
* It is now working fine with 2.20.
