Tried to upgrade my FreeAgent Theatre+ to the 2.23 firmware (the APAC version as I'm in Australia) and it has failed and I think I'm in trouble.
I now have the FAT+ connected via HDMI to a small spare TV screen, no network connection at all.
Following the documented COLD RESET method of formatting a fresh USB device and copying the install.img file to the root of the USB and then unplugging the power from the FAT+, inserting the USB into the front port, holding down the reset button at the rear and then reinserting the power cord does not work.
I see the words "Not Support!" scrolling on the TV screen and I know this comes from the FAT+ because when there is no power to the FAT+ I get the predicted "No input detected" message on the screen.
The power light on the front of the unit is flashing off and on at about 1 sec intervals.
I have redownloaded the firmware a couple of times and tried using other firmwares as well, but all to no avail.
Is there any chance at all this can be recovered or am I completely toast?

This thread may be of help. (link)
Basically, unplug for 5 minutes. Plug back in and try to cold flash the firmware again.
You should not have any deviced plugged in at the time. Also, try using the REAR usb port, not the front.

Just to clarify, I believe that the words "Not Support!" are actually generated by the TV, not the FAT+, but the point I was trying to make was that the act of powering on the FAT+ changes the message on the screen so I know that some signal is travelling along the cable, but not good enough for the TV to understand.
I should also clarify that this HDMI connection was working fine earlier as this was how I initiated the upgrade.
Apologies for any confusion.

Thanks very much for that prompt reply, I'll try that now.

OK, tried after unplugging for 5 mins and used the rear USB port, but no joy - same result.
Will leave it unplugged for about 30 mins now and then repeat.

Tried leaving the device off for 2 days and tried again and still nothing.

Have you tried using a different input to the TV? There might be a problem with the HDMI piece of the pie. The error indicates there is something in the HDMI signal it doesn't like. I would try using the analog inputs and see if you get any output to the TV. Once that is confirmed and if it works then you can take a look at any settings specific to HDMI on the TV.

Hi Jim,
I had thought of that, but hadn't actually tried it since it was working fine over HDMI before I applied the change, but its a good call, I'll try the component link and see if that changes anything.

Changing to the component inputs instead of HDMI has changed the behaviour.
Now I get to see the Seagate logo in the middle of the screen, but it doesn't go any further.
The Yellow power light just keeps blinking and nothing happens.

A shot in the dark. If you hold down the reset button for 10 seconds it toggles between PAL and NTSC. I am not sure if the logo will still show if you are in the wrong mode but it's something I thought of here.
