I got my fat+ today and hooked it up and it was able to get right on netflix, at least the queue, I didn't try to play anything. According to the user guide, it was supposed to just find my shared media files on my network and have them sorted accordingly. I clicked on the movies button and it didn't find anything, and the same for the rest.
I have 2 xp sp3 computers and 2 windows 7 computers, it could see the folders of the xp computers but not the windows 7, it kept asking me to log in even though there is no password on my systems.
I read around and found that windows live essentials causes problems, so I got rid of that, that didn't work. Then I found the registry fix and changed all the streaming settings, turned on all the sharing options, turned off all the password options, lowered the encryption from 128, etc.
It then began to see the folders of the windows 7 computers but no files.
I updated the firmware, through the network and then with a flash drive, and it still only sees folders.
So I thought it was a windows 7 thing, so I tried to look at media on the xp computers, I had only confirmed that I could access it through the network before, I hadn't tried to view anything. And it did the same thing, I can see folders, but no files.
After messing with it for 4 hours, I thought I'll just copy some files on a flash drive and go that route....but again, the same thing, only sees folders no files. I had one folder with an .avi file and one folder with about 10 jpgs and both folders appeared to be empty. So I sat down in frustration and after a few minutes the fat+'s slide show screen saver came on displaying the pictures!! (so I know that the pictures were there). It cycled through that a few time and eventually got stuck on one picture and now the remote won't even turn it off, I'm going to have to go and force it off.
so is my thing broken or what? I opted for this one over cheaper ones because I thought it would be more reliable but this is crazy! Please if anyone has some advice, it would be greatly appreciated....I'm going to go have a drink right now![]()

From the sticky post in my .sig:
Try that out and report back. Opted for this one over cheaper ones? What is cheaper? I assume you got in on the recent deals where it's about $50 at newegg.

You can not see your network shares by selecting "Movies" from the main menu, this is something the FAT+ will not do. For network shares, you have to (from the Main Menu) select "Browse", then "Network", then your PC, then login. And you can only browse by the folder structure of your network shares.
If you can't see any files this way, then it may be that you don't have the permissions for those folders set correctly. You will need to got to each shared folder and check the permissions. For Win 7, right click on the folder, select properties and click on "Everyone', make sure that there is at least a check mark beside "read".

I thought you could see the shared media on the 'movies' tab etc... so that's no big deal.
But when I browse the network itself, I can see all 4 of my computers. I can go into all of them. I can see all of my folders, and sub folders. I can move freely throughout all of my shared folders. But all of the folders look empty. It never shows any media, no video, no jpgs, no mp3s, nothing in any of the folders. It doesn't work on my windows 7 computer, it doesn't work on my xp computer and it doesn't work on the usb flash drive.
I would think it was a network problem if it only happen on the network, but it also does that on the usb flash drive. So I don't think it's my network

Put a couple .jpg's, avi's, and mp3's on the thumb drive you have and plug it in the front port and go to it.
Then I would double check and make sure you have the browse set to ALL MEDIA. It's very easy to make a mistake setting it as you have to move to the option (show all media) and then press the OK button for it to be turned on. Just moving to it and pressing the menu button doesn't set it.
If you still have no joy you might want to flash the firmware again using the COLD METHOD the firmware can be downloaded from a link at the bottom of the page describing the cold method, then set the unit up again.

To activate Netflix, you must use the code you get on your FAT+ when you first try to get Netflix, & input it at netflix.com/activate
