Don't do it! wait until it's posted on the website and download the file, then do a Cold Update
you always see that when there is a new FW release. But on-line update will mess up your device.

bodhi is right, don't do any updates via the FAT+. Always, always, always, I can't stress enough, always update using the Cold Method.
Also, don't waste your time looking to update now. There won't be a worth while update for probably another month.

As a new owner, please clarify for me . . . When doing a cold method update, how long does one typically hold down the reset button before the Seagate logo comes on the screen? On my unit (its having problems as explained in another thread) the instant I plug in the power cord the logo appears on screen. There is no delay. It also refuses to do a cold update at this point. When I try, the logo on the unit flashes amber and the updating screen never shows.
This unit is going back for replacement for this and other problems but I'd like to know what to expect when my replacment unit needs to be updated to the fabulous, new, improved, all-bugs-fixed, miraculous FW that will be released soon. Okay . . . maybe just improved. But that's OK too!

The users on here - bodhi78, Tinwable - have given good advice in my estimation.
There is a new firmware update coming but not quite yet. Sorry to bear bad news, but I'm on top of it and will communicate a solid timeline as soon as I can.

Alan, Thanks for an update. Since I have FW1.55US on my box, why did I get a "FALSE" (it seems) update notification on my unit? Where you guys testing something on the online update server?

Noobie, you got the firmware message becuase you have my custom DNS settings. I put an update on my server last night for a few minutes so that I could update one of my boxes back to 1.45 firmware... Apparently you were connected at the same time I was doing my testing... Just disregard the message.

Am I reading that right? Is your custom RSS along with static DNS settings a back door to downgrading to the 1.45 custom firmware?
I don't think I would be willing to lose NetFlix permanently, but I'd be interested in checking out 1.45 custom for the heck of it.
