I have a strange problem trying to play MP4 files (both AVC/H264 and MPEG4) on my FAT+ when they are served via UPnP (MediaTomb).
If I use a network share (SAMBA) the files play correcly, but if I try to access the same files via UPnP they don't start. I have no problems playing back AVI files with the same UPnP server.
I've tried to use different MIME types (video/mp4, video/avc, video/xvid, video/avi, etc.) with no help. The object class is correctly object.item.videoItem. Also, I've used the Intel UPnP tools to check config and all seems correct.
Does anyone stream an MP4 container thru UPnP to FAT+? What MIME type/object class do you use?
The files are encoded using Handbrake, but I don't think this could be an encoding issue because the same files play well if accessed via network share.
Any clues?

I suspect that the UPnP is not working right now. Note the announcement for Feb FW release
http://forums.seagate.com/stx/board/message?board.
It mentioned UPnP and DLNA compliance in this upgrade.

Thanks for your answer.
Reading the article you linked, it seems to me that the it states the new version will be able to share its contents thru DLNA so becoming a media server.
Currently, I'm already able to use FAT+ as a UPnP client to play content stored on my media server. Only problem I have is with .mp4 files, as described.
