I just want to make sure I am reading this right. Sorry if this is a newbie questions, but can I flash my FAT+ with this Mod 2.23 firmware no matter what current Seagate firmware I have installed? Or (like in the past I read about) can I only use this mod firmware if I have below Seagate FW1.55?
I currently have Seagate FW 2.20 on my box. The Netflix option doesn't work good (Netflix didn't work good with FW v2.23 either). I actually now have some other Netflix devices that work better anyway so I would like to maybe have some other functions on my FAT+ instead of the Netflix. It seems like this mod FW would be able to provide this. Just want to clarify some things before I possibly try to flash it though.

Hi,
my fat+ warranty just ended. have you guys tried reverting to the original 2.23 or 2.20?
You have to install the recovery FW (search the forum) and then you can install the original 2.20 or 2.23.

Hi,
you need FW 2.20 installed, because you need telnet.

If you have 2.23 installed you can revert back to 2.20 by using the usb method.
For those looking for 1.55 recovery or 2.20, see the stick post in my signature.

Actually, I recently went back to v2.20 since I thought my Netflix issues were due to v2.23. However, I have the same Netflix problem with v2.20 & have just kept it on this firmware.
I would then download the Mod 2.23 firmware from the link provided on the previous page at http://www.mediafire.com/?64xlhwcpuyfnpn3 & "cold" flash this Install.img file to my Seagate FAT+, correct?
I'm also assuming if I flash this mod firmware, it will NOT have Netflix support. This is not a big deal for me as I would rather be able to FTP files from a networked PC to a Seagate connected USB drive right now then have the Netflix option.
I can then also go back to the Seagate firmware as well (v1.55, v2.20, v.2.23), right?

No, not the cold method for this one. See this post by Seb. I have asked dm to update his first post in this thread to detail this install method.
I haven't had any time to try it yet, but I believe Netflix will still operate with this mod.

Cool. And we can go back to any of the Seagate firmwares (1.55, 2.20, 2.23) if needed, correct?

This is super cool and thanks to everyone who made this possible! I purchased a FAT+ last fall and was disappointed to find that it shipped with 2.20 firmware since that locked me out of cool mods. However, I kept searching periodically and am thrill to find this good news.
I'm most interested in the ability to either FTP or Samba to the device to put content on its harddrive. (Still amazing to me that Seagate left out this crucial function.) I'm reasonably technical, but I'm obviously a few steps behind you guys. So I want to make sure that I understand the state.
1) The latest firmware is SEB's 4/17 2.23 version and is installed by the "kill -6 1" method. Is this a US firmware? EMEA firmware? Or doesn't it really matter? (My FAT+ is US.)
2) I guess that the firmware doesn't automatically have the new BusyBox installed on it, but I can download it myself to a USB stick and run it manually. Is there any way to make this autostart upon reboot? (I see the reference to /usr/localetc/autorun.sh, so I suspect that can be modded for autostart somehow. Is there room inside the device for FTP and other apps? Or must they reside on an external USB drive?)
3) Are there instructions to install Samba also? Or do we need to wait for a firmware update that supports it? (FTP is fine for my usage, but I would prefer Samba if available.)
4) I assume that the Go HD will be fairly obvious if I poke around the filesystems, right? (Pointers would be appreciated.)
Thanks again for this coolness, and I look forward to installing it tomorrow!

- See previous posts in this thread for answers to questions 1, 2 and 3 ![]()
To sum up: 1) US version is available in 1st post. 2) Available in 1st post. 3) Not at the moment (hexcide might be able to provide a way to run samba).
- Not sure what's you looking for in question 4?

I've verified that you can go back to version 1.55 using the Rescue FW, and then flash any of the FW versions 2.20, 2.23, or Mod 2.23. All using USB method. Go for it :-)
Clarification: of course the only path to Mod FW 2.23 is through FW 2.20 and telnet as decribed in 1st post.
