INSTALLING

Install Procedure so far requires TELNET into the box,

ie.

Put the new "install.img" on the root of a usb stick and put it in the machine.

From Windows "Telnet 192.168.1.123" or whatever the IP is of your media player

user=root  , no password

type the command  "kill -6 1" , and watch it update itself.

****FOR GOFLEXTV Try to put the install.img on a KEY on the BACK usb port. side one may not work??

-I've tried it and made an EXT3 primary partition on my usb drive and it showed up as sda2 , just RESIZE your original partition (carefull) to add a gig of free space at the END of the drive. then make a new partition EXT3. Then format the partition.

Wish list for new Mod FW 2.23, it is desirable to include:

- Samba

- Busybox

If not possible, then create scripts or procedures to install Samba and busybox.

TELNET into box

cd /tmp/usbmounts/

ls -al

cd sda1      (or whatever your usb hd key is...)

ls -al   (look all your files...)

wget http://www.busybox.net/downloads/binaries/1.18.4/busybox-mipsel

./busybox-mipsel tcpsvd -vE 0.0.0.0 21 ./busybox-mipsel ftpd  -w / &

...and look an ftp server is now running....  the defailt  / at the end there just means root of all

 ...ps ./busybox-mipsel --help

and you need to use ./ before your command

dm, thanks! FTP files to the FAT+ is quite slow, though.

ftp wasnt that bad. I used FileZilla for it.

OK...I am thinking of this to make the adding of custom menus easy

use  /usr/localetc/autorun.sh    to copy the  original INTERNET menu for the gui ( /usr/local/bin/scripts/menu_US.rss ) to ( /usr/local/etc/dvdplayer/savedrss/scripts ) , creating the savedrss/scripts if not already there.

Then INSERT a specific set of text to allow the new ITEM Icon to be inserted into the menu and point it to the USB drive.

-Im guessing this would need a lot of  awk/sed/grep and some >   ?

-problems, which usb drive? can it be automatic or just make all? Or, perhaps just make a submenu that has a link to all usbdrives.

-Can we fix this if we LOOK for a specific file/folder on each usb drive? If Exist /tmp/usbmounts/sda1/OPT... then USBdrive= sda1 ..?

Then Make a cgi page that goes into /tmp/www/cgi-bin that will allow us to edit/insert/modify a template rss menu page that we place on the USB drive?

-This would all require the mod 223 first + optware installed maybe... any ideas?

Right now I have to make my menus by hand and it's a pain , so i never use them. Also , the FAT+/Goflex does not playmost media by default like other players.

On the topic of stuff to do, perhaps have a look at this thread. It hasn't been updated for a while, however the first post details some essential features which still have not been fixed. It'll be great to keep that thread alive. =D

I think the main capabilty will work. But not Internet services. If you use them, then you'll need APAC version.

my fat+ warranty just ended. have you guys tried reverting to the original 2.23 or 2.20?
