Settings: Video Resolution 1080p is missing

Hi Guys,

I have FAT+ with original FW 1.16. In settings/video resolution 1080p option is missing from the list. I can see uptil 1080i but 1080p is missing. I could remember that it was there before. I was using component cable before but now I am using HDMI cable.

Does it make any difference?

Thanks,

Re: Settings: Video Resolution 1080p is missing

I switched back to component cable and 1080p appeared again.  It does not make sense now. 1080p should be supported in HDMI (High Def Multimedia Interface).

I found following options with Component and HDMI cable.

Component Cable:

480i

480p

720p / 60 Hz

1080i / 60 Hz

1080p / 60 Hz

HDMI Cable:

HDMI Auto

NTSC (480i)

PAL (576i)

480p

576p

720p / 50 Hz

720p / 60 Hz

1080i / 50 Hz

1080i / 50 Hz

1080p resolution is missing with HDMI cable.

I think it is a bug or something.

That is weird...did you try to reset your FAT+, and/or change back to default settings after changing the cables?

Re: Settings: Video Resolution 1080p is missing

1080p is missing from the list on mine too. I thought maybe my TV didn't support 1080p, but I could have sworn it did.

I haven't checked to see if composite will offer 1080p.

I think somebody from SEAGATE should reply on this issue.

Re: Settings: Video Resolution 1080p is missing

I think you need to double-check your TV supports 1080p.  What is the model number?

If it does not, then then 1080p missing when using HDMI makes sense.  I don't think that it has the ability when connected via component to know what the TV supports (it is a "dumb" interface), whereas it definitely does via HDMI and may then be blocking it.

I believe that poddie is correct.

The TV would have a serial EEPROM chip that stores, among other things, its model number and supported vertical and horizontal scan rates. This information is called the Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) and is accessed via the Display Data Channel pins (DDC) in the HDMI cable.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EDID

Component cables are purely one-way analogue interfaces whereas DDC is digital.

See these pinout diagrams:

http://pinouts.ru/Video/hdmi_pinout.shtml

http://pinouts.ru/Video/dvi_pinout.shtml

DVI is a similar interface used by your graphics card. You can connect your monitor to your PC and view the EDID information using a utility such as DDCTEST (Win9x/ME only) or Powerstrip:

Re: Settings: Video Resolution 1080p is missing

Hi fzabkar & poddie,

You guys must be right. I have connected my FAT+ to a 1080i Sony Projector. I will be upgrading to 1080p projector soon and then I will be able to test it.

Thanks for your input guys.
