V. 1.45 and selectable sizes for srt subs.

I have seen this addressed previously by someone else without answer and I even contacted support and received no answer as to how to fix the second line of  srt text from falling off the screen when playing HD MKVs. So I was surprised that while fiddleing around with the remote while playing a MKV I noticed that by mistake I had put the movie on pause and was playing with the up down right left arrows. It was than that I noticed that the up down arrows would move the text up or down on the screen and the right left arrows would make the text larger or smaller. So, my problem was fixed.

This didn't happen with V 1.26  I also noticed a number of other changes.

With 1.26 ff up to 4x and volume did not disappear. Also the volume control actually worked but the mute button would mute but not unmute without disconnecting power from the unit

With 1.45 volume control is now just volume or no volume and FF even at 1.5 has no volume, also, mute button now works correctly.

So, I was wondering , is there someplace on this site that that includes all the functions available for the different firmwares?

Wow ............ I'm stunned ............ an easy fix to a long standing nagged issue. The subtitle size has been a major pain ever since I bought this unit, but I was so impressed with it's other features that I just dealt with it like so many others on this forum. A big thanks should go out to tony55 for sharing this fix with us ............ he certainly made my day.

BTW ............ why was this option never listed in the users manual? .............. hmmmmmm ............... ;-)

It should be in the release notes (no "release notes" for version 1.55 and this is only for version 1.45), but it seems to be incomplete.  This is about as much info as you will find, since updating  the USER GUIDE doesn't seem to be a high priority on Seagates list.

tony,

I'm glad you've joined us on this board! what a great find. I got to try this tonight :-) It's been a problem for me too.

Anybody who has FW 1.26 or 1.27, please try this to see if this works for you. I'm curious if this function has been implemented before and we never find out until now. If this is true, this is a prime example of the problem with lack of information associated with each FW release.

I've tried this and too bad it did not work for the subtitles on DVD ISO. Have you tried this with DVD ISO? it would be really nice if it also works there.

Re: V. 1.45 and selectable sizes for srt subs.

@bodhi78

The only thing that I've used it for is HD mkv from BR rips. BRs use PGSsup subtitles and the Fat+ doesn't play them. You have to mux out the sup and convert it to idx/sub or srt. Also my fat+ freezes when given a 1080p idx/sub so I also have to reconvert it to a 720p idx/sub. Then it plays it just fine.

With DVDs I don't many ISOs I usually store them as folders so I can use them on my fat32 hard disks for use on my PS3 or Philips players.  But even than, they all were ripped with associated subtitles.

Later this week I will pull a DVD, create an ISO from it and also a MKV along with an external srt and see what happens

Re: V. 1.45 and selectable sizes for srt subs.

@ Bodhi78

As I thought about what you said, I remembered that I had a DVD that I had converted to MKV and I was using a downloaded srt externally. It was resizable in the fat+. So, I went and reconverted it to a VideoTS form and then also to a DVD iso. All worked and were resizable. With the VideoTS I put the srt inside the folder and another outside the folder. It recognised both. With The ISO I just made sure the srt was in the same folder as the ISO. It also worked.

In all cases the srts were external and not muxed back into the iso or the VideoTS vobs. It is very important to make sure that the external srts have the same name as the iso or the Vob folder. It may sound stupid to say but on a number of occasions I was not able to play an external srt or idx/sub even though the name was the same as the file I was trying to match. In those cases I was able to copy and paste the names to ensure they were the same..... and they worked. Just because they look the same doesn't always mean they are the same.

Hope this helps.

Re: V. 1.45 and selectable sizes for srt subs.

Tony,

I should've said that I've tried and it works great for the mkv files! I have only a few ISO titles that needs raising the subs, and I thought I'd try them to see if it works, for future references. It'll be very handy I'm sure.

Thanks,

-bodhi
