Re: WiFi Adapter - Does it have to be Seagate?????

Fry's has this Patriot N wireless adapter with 300 Mbps for $10 with no rebate. Exact model is PCB0WAU2-N. I plugged it in and it worked great with the FAT+ HD firmware 2.2. Too bad I ordered the Zonet from newegg already. Here's the link to the Patriot: http://www.frys.com/product/6390761

Re: WiFi Adapter - Does it have to be Seagate?????

I just bought my Theater plus yesterday and tried to set it up today. It had firmware 1.55 in it which I upgraded to 2.20. I tried my Netgear WG111v2 in it and it doesn't seem to recognize it. After reading through this whole thread, it seems that it should work since it has a Realtek 8187L chipset in it. When I go to the Network setup and try to turn on the wireless connection, it comes up with the message "no wireless router found". What do I need to do to get this to work with my Netgear Wg111v2, or won't this one work even though it has a chipset that is listed as a good one ??

I got it working with the DX adapter: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.27170

By "upgrading" to 2.20, you have locked in the Netgear firmware, so there is no chance of adding extra drivers.

The 1.55 still respected the GPL and allowed you to add improvements, but I don't know that anyone has bothered with adding wifi support.

You would need the rtl8187 driver, the Netgear firmware, and some configuration.

Re: WiFi Adapter - Does it have to be Seagate?????

My unit came with the 1.55 firmware and that couldn't find my Netgear WG111v2 either.  So with firmware 2.20, what wireless G/N adapters will work ??  I don't want to ordering ones that don't work. Thanks for the rapid reply.

Re: WiFi Adapter - Does it have to be Seagate?????

I ended up taking back my old wifi adapter I just purchased and purchased the Zonet ZEW2546 instead.

It worlks perfectly, and the Netlfix issue I had earlier was resolved when using this wifi adapter.

[ Edited ]

I have two wifi adapters (LevelOne WNC-0301USB and ZyXEL AG-225H) but none of them are working with FAT+ 1.55

Am I missing something? Do I need a specific adapter? Should I buy one or just use a wired connection?

Thanks

Yep, only certain adapters are supported.  If you have the ability to wire it, do it!  It is easily the most stable and trouble free connection out there.

There are a number of adapters listed throughout this thread.  If you want, see the section in this post on compatible adapters.

Re: WiFi Adapter - Does it have to be Seagate?????

The Asus USB N-10 works very well for me. I'm able to access youtube and also login to my desktop wirelessly, and access shared folders. Playback is absolutely normal for SD video files and images, but Blu-ray rips and HD Video experiences stuttering. I guess that maybe an issue with my wireless G router. Any thoughts on this?

Re: WiFi Adapter - Does it have to be Seagate?????

Forgive me if I sound like a complainer, but I find it foolish that I have had to spend so much time hunting for answers on what other adapters I can use besides the "Seagate Wifi" which is pricey at $30-$40 when many other boxes such as Sony (which is priced much less and has built in WiFi and many more streaming apps) can be used and although they may not have the "push your GoFlex portable into the drive" they offer USB ports to simply add a drive if wanted.

Even Western Digital who I was reluctant to purchase because I prefer Seagate offers an entire page dedicated to alternate adapters for their TV box. http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3805 when I contacted Seagate support I was told that there are a few other adapters besides their $39 brand, but I will need to surf the net and forums to see what others are using.  That bothers me a bit after spending Hundreds on every other GoFlex product such as the 2TB home WiFi Network which is why I got confused when Seagate promotes their Goflex products to be intagradable. I guess I was foolish for assuming that I could somehow add the $120 Goflex TV without needing the $39 adapter. Plus having to add an adapter takes up the side USB port on the box which I wanted to use for a wireless keyboard.  If nothing else, they should be willing to offer alternatives since many of us have old Wifi adapters laying around. I have two different Belkin adapters (1 G and 1 N) but they do not seem to work, so I am afraid to purchase a the $15 Airlink and have that not work either.
