So I just bought a freeagent+. Hooked up it, connected it to my router etc, everything looked good. I bought it for netflix streaming, so that was the first thing I tried.
It pops up with a window where it checks 'connecting to the local network', then 'connecting to the internet', then 'checking for updates', then finally 'connecting to netflix'. The first three get a green light, the final one gets a red light. Then it comes up with 'netflix server returned an error'.
I got on with the chat support folk, they had me downgrade to firmware 1.55, that didn't fix it. So then they had me upgrade back to 2.2 again, that didn't work either. In the end the guy told me I'd have to RMA it, which has me pretty p'd off, as it's pretty poor QA that ships brand new units that have to be RMA'ed.
Before I send it off, has anyone had similar issues? If I can avoid paying shipping to send it to seagate I'd prefer to. I'd return it, but I bought it online, so no matter what I do here it looks like I'm going to have to suck up a shipping fee because seagate screwed up. Way to go.
So if anyone has any other things I could try, please let me know.

Did you try to connect to Netflix via your PC to make sure that Netflix isn't down for maintenence as they were about a month ago. People were reporting the same thing then that you are now when they had gone down for maintenence.
Another thing, are you using a wired or wireless connection? If you are wireless, try using a wired connection.
You may also want to update the firmware for your router/modem if there are updates available.

Before you sent it back, I am running into the same problem. I just received the box today from Newegg. I connected it to my router using RJ45 cable and updated the firmware. Everything else works (Youtube, Weather, Network shareing) except for Netflix. Same 3 green light and 1 red light when I tried to connect. I went to Netflix's web site and their link took me to Seagate. My Xbox 360 plays Netflix fine. I will try again tomorrow.

Using a wired connection. Even tried wiring it directly to my modem.
Netflix also definitely not down. Streams fine on my laptop, plus I called and went through it all with them. They said everything all clear at their end, plus the fact ti works on other devices at my place says it's an issue with the seagate.

yeah mine was exactly the same... Got it in the mail today from newegg.
Guessing yours is from the exact same batch, likely the same problem. If you figure anything out let me know here, I'll do the same.
The seagate phone support is closed, I'll be trying them tomorrow. The chat guys got me nowhere.
If seagate tell me that I need to pay shipping to send this[Edit: Please do not evade the word filter] off to them I will be somewhat ticked off.

Ok, when the support guy had you downgrade, then upgrade back to the 2.20 FW, did you install the firmware using the GUI (ie: insert the USB stick, select Menu / Setup....) or did you install using the COLD METHOD?

I bought it from newegg too and is having exactly the same problem. I think the problem is that the device is already activated with an empty id. Tried to deactivate it in the system menu but it obviously did not do anything. Hope someone can figure out how to make it work without returning it to seagate.

First couple of go throughs were via the gui. After that it was cold method all the way. Neither seemed to have any effect.

Yeah I tried the same thing. It also says version 1.6 under the netflix account, but i'm not sure if that is the netflix specific software, or something else. That doesn't change when you try to deactivate/update/anything.

Just spoke with the tech support on the phone...
this is all a bit of a joke... Seagate tech support on the phone tell you it's going to cost $15 per call. I told them that was ridiculous given they'd sent out a defective unit, so the guy told me it would be no charge. Anyway, conclusion he reached was it was a defective unit. I could either pay to ship it back to them for RMA (plus wait a few weeks) or go back to the retailer (newegg). Newegg have said they'll give me a return shipping label, so it's going back to newegg.
Problem is that others that got theirs from newegg have the same problem, so my guess is that a replacement unit will have the same problem. We'll see.
