I got mine yesterday from the Newegg sale. Hooked it up, turned it on, activated, and streamed in minutes. I haven't played with it much, but it definitely activated and worked.

@danyim
Firmware 2.22 or did you mean 2.20? I can't find 2.22 anywhere.

I don't think it has anything to do with a "bad batch." People have been complaining about activating devices (Xbox, wii, Ps3) all over the 'internets' for the last few days.
I for one tried the cold boot firmware update, wireless and wired. Deactivating Netflix from the menu. All the same outcome. It looks like it's pretty clearly Netflix's fault.
I did notice after the update that the rear port no longer recognizes my wireless adapter. Which is annoying. Hope it still works for USB drives atleast.

I originally purchased my FAT+ back in February but never tried streaming with it until recently. Saturday I looked up some details and found this thing should stream Netflix. I gave it a shot. I had an older Firmware so I had to upgrade to 1.55 on a thumb drive before I even had the option to activate.
Once I rebooted to 1.55 I tried Netflix and go the server error. After that I did an OTW update to 2.20. At that point I received the same error.
To make a long story short I called Netflix and they pointed me to Seagate. I chatted with Seagate and they told me to fall back to FW 1.55. I did that and I still cannot activate Netflix.
From this and the forum I am leaning towards a handshake issue between Seagate and Netflix. I can't imagine its a bad batch of recent units because mine is 9 months old. I am hoping for a fix soon. In the least, I am hoping for a formal acknowledgement of the issue. I am getting a real bad taste in my mouth from this, my first, Seagate purchase.

Sorry, I meant to write 2.20. I'll edit my post.

Add me to the growing list of people who just received their FAT+ from Newegg yesterday and have been unable to activate it. It works OK streaming YouTube videos, but I get the "server error " when trying to go thru the Netflix activation process - I get the red light right at the end, I updated my firmware directly by the internet connection and it seems to have updated properly.
I already have an account at Netflix - has anyone tried and failed to activate a Netflix trial subscription using the FAT+ Activation screen?
The Netflix website has a procedure for activating media player devices, but asks for the Activation Code from the player manufacturer. If that were available, the device could possibly be activated on their website.

Maybe we can find something in common with the failing devices.
Part# 9UH2A0-522 (on bottom of FreeAgent Theater+)
Anyone else with a failing device have the same part#. How about working devices?

I have that same part number as you on the bottom of my unit (which will not activate), but the box shows part number 9UG2A0-570.

I have the same issue with the part numbers, good find.
I have called netflix, Seagate and my internet provider. No one knows anything.
You can return unit through Seagate, I did online chat and finally got a number, you cannot use tech support, but you can contact for replacements at:800-732-4283.
They will pay the shipping, because they were just purchased. But you have to wait for the label, sent it in and then wait for replacement. Told me about 14 days total.
If you return it through NewEgg it's $10 shipping, from what I can see. That's out of pocket.
Does NewEgg pay for shipping if we just return it?
