Promotion update

We just got word that a new server promotion was updated that should allow the FreeAgent Theater + units purchased from Newegg to activate properly with Netflix.
If you were experiencing difficulties, please attempt your Netflix activation again.  Let us know if problems persist.  Thank you!

Re: netflix server error

Grrr... still have the error.  Tried 1.55 and 2.20.

I tried to reset the netflix activation like a madman and that did nothing.

I guess I missed the window.  Will try again later.

Re: netflix server error

Mine works now.

No need to deactivate.  Worked the first time when I tried to activate a minute ago, after I tried countless times since yesterady with no avail.

I have changed from 1.55 to 2.20 back and forth a few times, but the version when it worked is the 1.55 given by the Seagate rep (see the post on page 7.)   I am not certain if the version has anything to do with it.  This same version did not work earlier this afternoon.

I am happy now.  Seagate earned back my trust.

Re: Promotion update

At last!! For all of you who are wondering what a "Promotion upgrade" might mean here's what I heard form a support agent:

The FAT+s in question had been originally sent to Europe where Netflix is not supported and then sent back to US for consumption. The serial #s were subsequently not forwarded to Netflix servers for validation. Extrapolate from there...

After unpacking my FAT+ from the return box and re-connecting; it did not work immediately. I am connecting via a a wireless adapter Zonet ZEW2546 so I had to upgrade FW from 1.5 to 2.2, then it still did not work so I deactivated Netflix and briefly used uTube to make sure the adapter was functional, then Netflix and Wallahh!! Success!!

Well it's been unreal, Seagate was actually helpful, they called me back before I returned the unit and saved me more hassle. Until the next fiasco TTFN

Re: netflix server error

Argh!

So I thought I'd check if there were any updates to the thread... sure enough seagate screwed up and now it's all working.

Unfortunately I RMA'ed my unit back to Newegg already. It went back via UPS last night. I just checked the tracking and it's not due to get back to newegg until the 18th. Apparently newegg selected the "slowest shipping on the planet" option for the prepaid label they sent me. Then there's the 3-5 day RMA period, then they send me a new one back.

Meanwhile it was a screwup that seagate were able to fix. So annoyed with this whole process. At this stage I think I'm just going to ask Newegg for a refund. Thanks seagate!

Re: netflix server error

"Thanks seagate!"

I should add, the 'thanks seagate' is for screwing me around. Your support told me it was a defective unit, that it had to be RMA'ed. That was a lie, as obviously the units aren't defective if a server fix at your end resolved the issue.

So now I'm sitting aroudn waiting for all this because Seagate apparently doesn't know what they're doing.Note to self, don't recommend seagate to anyone.

Re: netflix server error

I just got home and tried what my friend had done with his. It works now!!

If you go into the settings and look at the "deactivate netflix" setting, there should be no information there. If there is (mine had an ESN listed, but the user field was blank), then you need to deactivate and click confirm. If it is properly deactivated, the ESN will disapear. Then make sure you have network connectivity, go into the netflix app and activate. I did this with version 2.2.

I'm very happy that it is all working now and I don't need to return it to newegg!

Re: netflix server error

Good job Seagate, it worked on the first try. I am glad I wait it out. Just a question, is there a way I can browse Netflix movie library on the FAT+? Maybe Hulu support later? Anyway no biggie, it's working and I am happy.

[ Edited ]

You cannot browse Netflix at this time and because Seagate has the newer Go Flex TV, I wonder just how long they will continue to proactively support the FAT+. I guess if the FW could be written to support both units we might get a break. I am pretty sure the fact that these things are going out so cheap is an indication we might be seeing the end.
