Just tried to install the update after keeping this in the closet until some better software came. Well, this was to be that software; Netflix. The update I think is 1.55. But I did the steps exactly by-the-book but now it won't get passed this red and white new style screen and reports "Can Not Boot to HDD". How in the heck do I fix this?
More notes: I did notice before I tried the update upon reboot it would ask the Language and Time so I suppose the on-board battery is now dead? Who knows. I like this device less and less. Also, couldn't keep the wireless connection. heck, it couldn't even do it once after "finding" the router. So sad. I really want to like this device. Just venting. Maybe everyone else has great luck with it. I hope so. Just tell me how to unbrick this thing. As I recall back a few months ago I took bricked mine and got it to somehow "cold boot", is that the term, and did an install - worked fine. Did it twice in fact. So what is the story.

The 1.55 FW is now available for download on the download page. Try doing a re-installing the FW using the Cold Method and see if that helps anything. There is, apparently, no way to roll back to earlier FW as of now, so if you installed the 1.55 FW you are stuck with it for now, but you can re-install it using the Cold Method.
Also, every time you install new FW it resets everything and you have to re-enter your language, time, audio & video settings. This has nothing to do with the battery.

I've tried three different flash drives and still can't "cold boot" to repair my now useless device. Now, I know I can do it as I've done it twice before but right now I cannot get it to work. I've tried formating it FAT, FAT32, and still nothing. It just shows me the Seagate name and logo with a black background. Sometimes the flash drive flashes rhythmically and sometimes no flashing at all. Any ideas? Help please. Oh, I've tried the front USB and the Back USB. I've tried the "cold boot" method and the just turn it on method. Nothing.

Mine is indentical problem. On the upgrade there was an error in the \\user file area. It was too long to show on my TV. Cannot do a cold boot at all!. Just sits there with the seagate logo. Let sit for 2 hours and the USB stick with the 1.55 upgrade just sits there blinking randomly

You can try the hard drive cold method. Load the "image.img" file in the root of your hard drive, plug it into your FAT+ and then try a Cold Install. Some people have had some luck with this method.

I spent two, wait, three hours today trying that many times. I borrowed two flash drives as I thought mine might have been the problem. Well, it wasn't. I tried the cold boot with the install.img created by-the-book. No go. It is still a brick. My only hope is the forum moderators pay attention, come up with a fix and it works. otherwise I can sell or use the wifi card ( works great with no driver install with Windows 7 to give it wireless-n ) and cyber-cycle the box itself as it has no use yet itself may be dangerous to the environment.

Before you go and sell it, I would think about contacting support about the 1.55 FW killing your FAT+. Someone has already contacted Seagate about the problems with the new FW, see the link HERE.

I also have a brick. Cannot get rid of the "CANNOT BOOT FROM HDD" mesaage. Have tried put the latest image on and it just sits there. Very disappointed, not sure what to do next. Anybody have any idea how to access the root directory of the theater+ directly where I could possibly format it?

GOT THE FIX!!! Have your serial etc ready and go to the Technical support page. Do a CHAT with one of the people and tell them you need the 1.55 recovery firmware for Theater Plus. They will show you the link and give you a certificate number to get that download. Be patient for them to get the info for you (about 3-5 minutes)
Follow the Cold Boot procedures. I booted to the Cannot boot from HDD then held in the reset, plugged in the usb Stick to the Front USB port (ONLY) and then disconnected the power, reconnected the power with the reset button still held down until the Seagate screen came up, then released the reset button and prayed!! The seagate screen stayed on until the flash was recognized then the performing an update showed. All works fine and it fixes a known issue with the Netflix and certain conditions.
Have fun
