sporadic 1 second freeze while viewing a movie

I have been noticing some sporadic 1 second freeze while viewing movies. The iso is on an external usb disk.

Anyone else have experience this?

I have latest firmware.

I have not seen this.  I am using an external drive as well and the mod firmware.

Re: sporadic 1 second freeze while viewing a movie

I have set my theater+ to 1080i. Maybe some buffering is not keeping up in some rare occasions. It is not because of content because rewinding and playing back the same sequence doesn't cause it.

I suspect that 1080i is a bit too high for upscaling dvd content. I am going to watch two movies at 1080i and 720p so see how often it occurs.

My FAT+ is set at 1080p 60Hz and is connected via HDMI directly to my Sony 60A2000 1080p rear projection TV.  Audio is set to Raw with an optical connection to my Denon AVR.

All I've played for the last month since I've had this is .ISO files of ripped DVDs.

I hope this helps you to narrow it down.

Re: sporadic 1 second freeze while viewing a movie

I am using component video output which has its own limit of 1080i and I believe it to be analog. It is still in rare occasions and not a big problem. Upscaling and conversion to analog is probably the reason.

Eventually, I could switch my dvd player to component and my theater+ to hdmi. I am using it in my living room, while I am building my library. Eventually move it to my theater room. Initially I was in HDMI and didn't notice that.

It happens at 720p, either with component or hdmi. So if it is not video processing, then it must be data acquisition from usb disk.

I am using a Seagate 1.5TB FreeAgent Desk drive. I could try changing the power management setting.

I will try with my 500g Fantom drive which I used initially.

Update:

Currently watching a movie with the Fantom drive and no freezing so far.

My Seagate was set at 15 minutes for the power saving. I have set it to 2 hours and redo a test after completing my Fantom test.

It is definately my FreeAgent Desk drive that creates this problem. Any ideas?

I am also getting a one second freeze/pause playing music.  WAV and Flac files.  The files are in a 500 gb go drive in the FAT+.

Another seagate drive:smileymad:

Anyone else could share on what kind of usb drive you are using? Maybe there is problem with many seagate drive installations...

This time, I have disabled power saving in my seagate disk. I also read in the manual, that I have to close the theater+ before removing a usb disk, which I was not doing. But I was doing the same with my Fantom drive.

Thus, with power saving disabled, I am watching a movie and waiting for the bug to come up again. Nothing yet.

Still working without errors and I have set back the power saving to 15 minutes.

Go figure
