I just retuned a failing 2 TB drive to costco that was used on my win7 PC and mac. I backed up all the files to my mac before returning the drive. I just came home with a new drive and it is readonly on my mac. installed the mac software form the drive and restarted the mac twice now and the drive remains readonly. no option to change permissions. works fine on pc but i cant restore backed up files that reside on the mac.
I am using Imac Snow leopard 10.6.5
2.93 Ghz Intel Core I7
8 GB memory 1333 Mhz DDR3
Please help or i have to return another drive.
Serial Number: NA0JW69L
Model Number: STAC2000102

Using a GoFlex drive under Windows and MacOS

The software install included with the drive did not give the option of Mac only or Mac and Windows.
I then dowloaded from the seagate website the Paragon installer by itself. After running that installer and then giong to the applications/Paragon folder i clicked on activate. after a restart my drive was working on both mac and windows.
Too bad the included software on the drive was incorrect for me but after a couple hours of trial and error i was able to make it work.

My installer took me through the previous post's steps but still came up "read only" after restart.
I found the Paragon folder in Applications and opened the alias to NTFS Preferences (a System Preference) and clicked Access Permissions.
There was no "read me" or anything in the installer steps to tell me to do this. I even viewed my Application folder by date but it didn't load as today's date. I didn't even know Paragon was part of the Seagate Freeagent Goflex.
Inside the folder was also a user manual -- ON MY HARD DRIVE not the one I just installed.
NOT USER FRIENDLY! But it is working now.

Thanks TSC and mousewife these tips both just worked for me! I would have never worked it out otherwise.

I tried both suggestions and unfortunately neither worked. ;( Any other ideas? This is very frustrating.
