.5 Tb drive works once then needs 2b unplugged to reset, finding movies, won't stop

I have a 92Q2A3 500Gb drive I bought thru Dish TV a short time ago  (~ 9 mos) to hook into my DVR 740.  It will accept or delete recordings 1x, then must be unplugged to do anything but play a saved movie.  This is VERY hard on me since the Seagate GoFlex is downstairs & I have MS & must wait for someone to unplug the unit (either the USB or power), wait 20 sec & plug it back in.  Then I can again delete or move more movies 1x - and the unit must again be unplugged to use again.  Any ideas why?  It's really aggravating to say the least.

Not only that, but to move down the list of movies I must scroll down one by one, or go down 1 page (of 6 titles) at a time, but it won't jump down the list by pressing the 1st letter of the name, so it takes a while to get to the movie I want.  Also, I can't stop a movie in mid-play:  it has to be fast forwarded to the end of the movie to select another.   Any ideas how to solve these problems?

Many thanks to whoever is able to help clarify these problems.

I think the part number you quoted must be wrong, because google search only brings up your forum post.

Anyway, I suspect it is going to sleep and not waking up. I had a similar issue with my drive connected to my PC.

Connect to PC and set power management

For Windows 7/Vista/XP:

  1. Right-click on (My) Computer.
  2. Select Manage.
  3. Select Device Manager.
  4. Click the + sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers to expand the menu.
  5. Double-click on the first Root Hub you see.
  6. Go to the Power tab and see if the drive is connected to it.
If not, try the next Root Hub.
  7. If so, click the Power Management tab.
  8. Uncheck the box that says allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

The second issue about scrolling and fast foward I think are related to your media player DishTV ...so can't help with that. Media player interfaces are often clunky.

Re: .5 Tb drive works once then needs 2b unplugged to reset, finding movies, won't stop

I recxhecked the number.  The main unit is PN 9Z2Q2A3 – 500.   The Power Unit/Adapter that clips to the base is PN 100662969.

I hope that helps anyone trying to figure out why the unit insists on stopping after every action [i.e copying a movie from the Dish DVR or deleting a movie from the Seagate unit] and requires being reset by being turned off and then on again after 20 seconds to perform anything else.  Then it has to be reset again after doing something else.
