500G harddrive only shows 465.8G available out of box, before backup

I recently bought a 500G FreeAgent GoFlex external harddrive. I just got through installing its software, and it shows that only 465.8G are available - before I've even put any data on it. It came out of the box with 35G missing? Is this normal, or should I call someone at Seagate about it?
