I have a new FreeAgent Goflex Desk 2TB external drive usb 3.0/2.0 compatible. It keeps making a beeping noise.
I've checked all the connections, neither the usb cable nor the power are loose.
I downloaded Seagate SeaTools and ran several tests, all passed.
Makes the beeping noise constantly, even when the drive is actively being used.
What is wrong with my new drive? I've only owned it a few days, I can return it, but I rather not, as I already spent the entire weekend backing up my files.
Anybody know what the beeping noise is? Is the drive already failing? Is my data safe?
More on the beeping noise. It isn't a traditional beep sound, it sounds like a combination between a beep and a buzzard noise.

Please try connecting it to different electrical outlets and to different computers if you can.
If it still does that, I suggest you take it back to the place of purchase. Sorry about that. :-(

I just moved the drive to a different outlet, but same computer, and the beeping stopped for now!
But....If I remove the usb from my computer the beeping resumes.
Is this a normal feature of these drives? Why does it do this?
So my drive is ok?
WOOPS I spoke too soon, beeping started again.

No, it's not a feature.
Haha, that reminds me of the old joke - the customer calls the manufacturer of his toaster.
Customer: This toaster emits sparks out of the back of it. It nearly set my house on fire. I need a replacement as this unit is clearly defective.
Manufacturer: Actually, that's not a defect; it's a feature.
Anyway, I'd take that unit back where you got it, if you can. It is not supposed to beep like that.
