GregH said...... I was wanting to migrate the external drive to the network. Based off of what I am reading this will not work......
I have the 2TB GoFlex Desk connected to my Belkin WiFI router/switch that has 2 usb ports. The Seagate software included with the drive does NOT work when connected this way. I have 2 computers that connect via cable and 3 that connect wirelessly. Connect to the network address of your router (in my case it's 192.168.2.1) and you can create a folder on the drive for each of your users and then map that folder to a drive on their computer - such as "Z." Then you will have to use some other backup software to perform the backups. Seems to work fine - Fred

"smileyindifferent" eh? Too bad I'll be returning the GoFlex Desk I got for Christmas, and won't be buying any Seagate products in the future. ![]()

What a pice of junk this Seagate Goflex Drive is... now I can't even access the drive on my network to backup, add music to or video. SO.. what is it to be used for.. taking up space on my desk.. Time to look at alternatives from companies that BACK and SUPPORT their products...
Frustraited for months now with 3TB... Hope Seagate enjoys my money I spent on this..

'smielyIndifferent' ?
Apparently Seagate have the same attitude to customer service they to do technology!
What piece of junk is this that cant perform the same function as a USB stick?
I mean seriously, it should say on the box 'Essentially a 1980's style zip drive, useless for all modern purposes, consider a proper product'.
I will be returning this waste of plastic tomorrow, Seagate = TotalFail

David, it's the latter. If an external drive works on the router, it's fine but if any issues are encountered with that particular hardware setup, Seagate doesn't support it.

The GoFlex Desk drive, even though the adapters can be changed, is still a USB drive.
Should you wish to add a network drive, you might want to take a look at our GoFlex Home drive, which was designed for network use:

Thanks for the link, but it is possible to buy only the adapter and provide the Goflex Desk the access the Home Storage has?

Your hard drives suck!! I should have bought another WD. I have a 5 years old WD which works perfect with my brand new WD router.
You should state that most of your drives dont work on routers with USB ports.
Shame on your cheap tecnology.

I connected the GoFlex 2.0 TB drive to my Linksys E4200 wireless router via the USB connection. I used the settings in the E4200 to configure the drive for my network. I was able to see the drive on all my computers, hard wire and wireless. This worked great until the power interface on the GoFlex died.
