External Hard-drive not powering up

Hello all,

My first post so thanks in advance for any help you may provide (and I hope I have found the fight sub-forum for this).

I have a 500GB Seagate external hard drive (Model Number: ST305004FDC1E1-RK).  I used this without any problems until yesterday but when turning on my PC this evening, the hard drive failed to light up and does not connect to my PC.  Has anybody experience this problem?  Is it simply a power supply issue (which a new plug will solve) or is it something more?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Andy

Re: External Hard-drive not powering up

it could be 1 of many things

1. (like you said) a power failure as it is not lighting up so try it on another computer and if that doesn't work, use a different usb lead

2. The motor inside has stopped running. Either use your warranty (if you still have it) or get somebody who knows a lot about external hard drives to have a look at it.

3. Completely ruined (happened to me). Take it back if you still got your warranty or just leave it as it won't be of much use to you

Re: External Hard-drive not powering up

Hi there. Did you solved the problem? Yesterday it happened to me, and I don't know what to do. And I need all the files that are on my HDD. If it's completely ruined do you know how to get my files back? :smileyfrustrated:

Thanks, Raul
