Firewire port not working but USB is???

Just like the subject my firewire post on my GoFlex Desk 3TB stopped working but when connect with USB it does work. Is it the cable or do I need new drivers using a Mac Book Pro. using 10.7.4

Could you please describe what is happening when it is connected via FireWire? 

Is it even detected in the Disk Utility? System Profiler?
