I have a 1Tb Free Agent GoFlex Drive that powers on and spins but refuses to be recognized (errror message "USB device not recognized" ) by my Windows 7 PC. It is recognized and works when connected to a Windows XP machine, but only if i plug it in before turning on the computer (if i try just plugging it in i get the error message).
I've tryed reformatting the drive but that didn't work (it is still recognized but XP on boot but not 7)
Any ideas why this would be? could the cord be the issue?

should add that it has been working for 6 months and it just now has stopped.

I have a Dell Latitude E6400 with the latest BIOS.
This drive was recognized by my laptop/windows explorer in April, but not now
Device Manager says the device is working properly, but it does not appear in the list of drives
What should I do?

rh1n0cer0s,
Where does the drive show in device manager? Is it under disk drives or is it under universal serial bus controllers?
If it shows under disk drives, select the volumes tab at the tob and select populate, what information does it provide you or does it give you an error?

Thanks so much for responding
The drive shows up under devices (not USB)
Here is the info when I click populate:
Disk: Disk2
Type:Basic
Status: Online
Partition Style: Master Boot Record (MBR)
Capacity: 953869 MB
Unallocated Space: 1 MB
Reserved Space: 0 MB
Volume: FreeAgent GoFlex Drive (I: ) Capacity: 953867 MB
The General tab says the device is working properly
When I try to update the driver, I get a system message saying that I already have the latest driver
The drive still does not appear as an option under My Computer

How does it show in disk management?

It shows up in disk management. When I right click and select open, I can access the drive and its contents.
The funny thing is that it was available the whole time on My Computer, but the drive was labeled as an old network drive. I renamed it to FreeAgent GoFlex.
Weird.
Thanks for your help silence711...much appreciated

I have GoFlex Home 3TB, Cisco WRT310N V2, Desktop PC (Win 7 64bit) does not recognize the drive. Get NETWORK ERROR "Windows cannot access \\goflex_home" Error Code: 0x80070035. Can not map netork drive. Under Win Explorer the drive does appear as "GoFlex Home:UPNP-AV" in two places, 1) under Media Devices & 2) Under Storage. When I click on either of them it opens Windows Media Player! PLEASE HELP!

refer to my reply to your other post.
This thread is about a different Goflex drive not the Goflex Home
