FreeAgent GoFlex freezes XP and becomes internal device on reboot

[ Edited ]

I have five XP Acer desktops. One of which required a total rebuild which included R & R of a non-Acer motherboard. I also have several W2K Pro machines. The following problem only occurs with only the XP units. My Freeagent GoFlex freezes immediately after plugging into any XP USB port (front or back of the units). If I leave the USB plugged in and reboot, the computer then recognizes it as a Hard Disk Drive and NOT as a Device with Removable Storage. Therefore, I must reboot the computer to safely disconnect since no systray option is available to safely remove USB drive. This only occurs with this device and not other devices that periodically utilize the USB ports. I read other posts and I confirmed that sleep mode is set to Never. On reviewing Disk Management, the internal boot disk is 0, and the GoFlex reads as disk 1.  I have 3 other WD USB backup devises which use or periodically trade off on these units without a hitch. This is my first experience with Seagate. Attached is Disk management screenshot. Please offer suggestions.
