I want a full drive image backup and restore capability. The Memeo software provided with the drive doesn't do this so I intend to replace it with Acronis True Image Home 2010 (which I have) or possibly the 2011 update. I've already tried Seagate DiskWizard (derived from ATIH) but it doesn't appear to be able to do incremental or differential backups. Additionally, I would like to use automatic scheduling to update my backup daily.

However, I thought it might be a good idea to discuss it here before I try this. I would appreciate comments (pro & con) from those who have already used a similar setup with an external drive like the GFD . Additionally, I'm looking for answers to these questions.

1. Can GoFlex Desk work together with ATIH or the DiscWizard to do automatic backup updates on a continuous basis?

2. If not, then I presume I could use it as a storage drive for backups. If so, then would I leave it connected & turned on 24/7? Would GFD still wake up when the backup software started to download to it?

1) Yes to both.  However DiscWizard does not do scheduled actions.

2) Yes.  Yes, you could leave it turned on.

Yes, it should wake up when the backup software starts to access it.

Thanks Alan. While waiting for a reply, I tried Discwizard & found that this was pretty much the case. I would sure like to upgrade to ATIH 2011 but the user reviews on CNET are discouraging me.
