I have a FreeAgent GoFlex Desk external drive (2TB with USB 3.0 and 2.0). When I plug it in to the outlet and my laptop, it spins on for a few seconds but then stops, without lighting up. When I take the base off and only plug in the base, the base lights up. When I put the base back on to the drive, the light goes out. In the Devices and Printers folder, the drive shows up under "Unspecified" and "needs troubleshooting". When I troubleshoot, it says reinstalling the driver may solve the problem. When I apply this fix, it says the driver was not reinstalled successfully. It does not show up in My Computer at all. I have tried it with other computers and it didn't even spin. I've checked my computer for problems with the drivers, and they are fine. SeaTools says nothing is wrong. Seagate Manager doesn't pick up the drive. In other forums, people who have had this trouble had dropped their external drives. I didn't drop it, so I don't understand why this is happening. Other people said their power cord or base was their problem, but I don't think that is my problem since it lights up when the drive is not on the base. I'd like to know if there is anything else I could try before sending it back in under warranty.

I have the same problem.
I do have one laptop with USB 3.0 ports and it works fine in the USB 3.0 port, but will not work on the same laptop in USB 2.0 ports or on any other usb 2.0 port I have.
