Hi - I am running Windows 7 and have plugged in my new GoFlex Desk external hard drive, but windows isn't automatically identifying it and installing the driver. I have the USB3 lead plugged into a USB2 port in my PC as I don't have a USB3 port. I have run through your trouble shooter and have unplugged the drive from the PC and power and plugged it back in on numberous occasions. I have done this with the PC on and with the PC off. I have turned the PC off, then the drive, then rebooted the PC, then plugged the drive in. I have also done this but withplugging in the drive before turning the PC back on. I have tried these several times and I cannot get windows to identify the drive. I can hear the drive when I put my ear to it and the light is on. Do you have any suggestions on how to get windows to install the driver, please?

Does the drive work on another system at all?
And does the drive show in device manager under disk drives or under universal serial bus controllers?

It doesn't work on either of the Windows 7 PCs I have tried it on. I had this problem initially with another identical one I bought, but this did get detected one of the 10 times I turned the PC & Drive off and on again. This on I have done this 15 times now and it is still not being detected. I am worried as I have bought 16 of these things to back up 16 PCs and have had a lot of trouble with the first two. I would love to have a simple solution caused by my lack of knowledge, because otherwise I hace 16 drives to return.
Grateful for any hlep, thanks.

Find one that is working properly for you and switch out the bases and cables with the drives that aren't working and see if that gets them to be recognized, if it does get recognized, then you've got a bad base and you can get it replaced through warranty if you contact support...
If it doesn't work, sounds like bad drives, unfortunately but they ALL might not be bad so don't give up on them just yet.
Lemme know what happens when you switch out the bases..

You can buy another base or you can contact warranty support and they should be able to set you up with a replacement base(s).
