I have a new GoFlex 2TB Desktop drive. When I first plugged it into my Macbook Pro It came up right away. But I noticed later that it disappeared for a couple of seconds. Mac OS gives me a error about ejecting the drive improperly. I make the dialog box go away and then the drive reappears after a couple of more seconds. I thought maybe I need to reformat the drive. So I did that (MacOS Extended journaled) I started to to use the drive. setting it up for Time machine and miscellaneous files. It still did it. Never while the drive is being accessed so far. Then I thought the problem is that it is connected to a USB hub. So I moved the cable to connect directly with the MBP. Still does it.
It happens about 6 to 10 times a day.
any suggestions? Otherwise I'm taking it back and getting a different brand.

I have the same exact issue! It would appear a number of other folks do as well based on other threads within this forum. To me it obviously the drive vs bad USB cable and/or and OS issue as has been suggested by Seagate (other threads). I purchased a 2Tb GoFlex Desk external drive from Costco yesterday. The install was easy and straight forward. After about 15-20 minutes the drive dropped off (OS disconnect tone)... After about 10 seconds, the drive reconnects (OS connect tone).. This cycle has been non-stop. Driving me up the wall.
So I returned the drive to Costco this morning and bought a new one. Seagate has always produced a qaulity drive and I happened to get a bad one, right? The 2nd one should be just fine! What are the odds that a 2nd one would have the same issue? Minimal, right? WRONG
Two drives - Same problem - I'm obviously not the only one with this problem. This drive is going back to Costco today and I will NOT be purchasing a new one. I'm sure Seagate won't miss my business being as big as they are. Based on others comments about their exchanges with Seagate Support - They obviously don't give a krap. Good luck JHowells on resolving your issue with Seagate, but you may be better off (mentally) just returning it and opting for a different brand.

I started a thread about the same problem Wednesday.
The advise I received on a different board was to disable autorun for that device which I did.
I no longer get the box prompting me as to what I want to do.
I still get the beeps but I very rarely have my speakers turned on so it isn't a problem.
My only concern is could this disconnecting and reconnecting cause damage to the drive or my computer.
I no longer drive and returning it to the store where I purchased it would involve a round trip Taxi fare of over $100 so I am just going to live with it.

It would be nice if they could fix it with some sort of software download ![]()
But I am guessing that it is possibly a physical hardware problem not a software problem. ![]()
Any chance someone from Seagate could address the matter ?

I also have the same issue and if I don't find a fix then this 2TB drive is going back to Costco.
It seems like its a sleep mode issue?
I have no need for the replica software that came with drive and searching I have seen that there is a "dashboard utility" where you can adjust the sleep mode to "never" but this drive didn't come with "dashboard utility".
Is there a place to down this utility?
Is this a fix for us? Or is there another way to adjust this issue.
Please advise.
Thanks.

Is this a fix? Where can I get a copy of this "dashboard" since it didn't come installed on my Seagate 2TB GoFlex Desk Dive?
Thanks!

Alan,
thanks for the reply.
My drive does not have this dashboard software. The only software I am able to install is Replica which is an automated backup software that I don't need since I'm using this drive for storage only.
I purchased this drive at Costco and the box has written on it "included Replica software"
I searched the entire drive and ran all setup.exe files but it only loads Replica no Dashboard.
I just want to adjust this drive to "never" sleep so it doesn't disconnect and reconnect several time a day.
Sometimes Costco has there "own" version of a product that is not 100% the same as if purchased else where so maybe thats why this drive doesn't have the Dashboard?
Thanks for any help you could provide.

I also solved my problem by downloading the above program and setting sleep mode to never.
Thank You
