Has anyone tried to use the eSATA cable (STAE103) with their drives? I am having nothing but troubles with this adapter. The drive works perfectly on USB 2.0, but when I try to plug it into the powered eSATA port on my laptop the drive is usually not even recognized or the very occasionally, the system tells me that it needs to be formatted. It has never really worked. I am wondering if it is a faulty cable or if there is some inherent problem with the cable that others are experiencing.

I bought one of these cables to go with my GoFlex Pro drive. As it can't be seen, it can't be mounted - at least that my take on it...
My PC doesn't see it at all and there's NO installation guide/manual with the cable. There's no help on the Seagate website either. Non of this is a surprise given my previous experience with Seagate.
If anyone does manage to crack this problem please post any details/advice you have!

First, you must make sure that the eSATA drivers for your computer are updated. Check at the manufacturer's website.
If that doesn't help, please report what you see in the Device Manager (right-click on [My] Computer, choose Manage) both when it is detected and when it is not.

Hi, I have the same problem : the seagate device is seen by the device manager when connecting in USB 2 mode but not in e-sata mode. Drivers are up to date and can be seen in the device manager as storage controllers. Plese help !

Hello,
I've the same problem. With USB 2.0 cable no problems, with the eSATA upgrade cable the disk is absolutly dead.
The device-manager shows me "Standard ACHI 1.0 Serieller-ATA-Controller".
Everything seems ok, but the disk doesn't work.
I'm using Windows 7.
If someone knows how to clear the problem please let me know.
Greetings
Perikles

Same problem with my Windows 7 laptop too. I'm not happy with the eSATA functionality, which as far as I can see offers next to no benefit, in fact, it just causes problems.
I've resigned myself to using the USB 2 cable.
Not good enough Seagate. That's the first and last product I bui from you.

Hello everybody, it's my first post here ![]()
Unfortunately i have to confirm all the problems regarding the eSATA cable/adpater for the GOFLEX PORTABLE hard drive (The model of 1TB space in my case). The drive is not recognized from my brand new HP Elitebook 8540w even if the eSATA port is activated in the BIOS.
No problems with the USB 2.0 and the USB 3.0 cable/adapters instead (that last works like a charm!)
Tried all solutions, also changin the SATA mode in the BIOS by setting it to AHCI(default) / IDE / RAID but no success ![]()
I think the problem is the eSATA adapter that does not transport sufficient energy/power to get the hard drive work correctly. ![]()

I think i have a bad bad news for you all guys..
Read this KB from Seagate: http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/
It seems that if you have not eSATAp (powered) ports, the drive will never work!
So the eSATA cable we bought is quite useless if we don't have such port that is recognizable by the combined logo eSATA / USB. ![]()

I've seen that article... and yes, it's true that if it's not a powered eSATA port, that it will not work. However, the laptop I'm attempting to use it with has a powered eSATA port.
It's really frustrating that Seagate is totally unresponsive on this issue.... I feel robbed of my money for the adapter. The drive itself works beautifully under USB.
