GoFlex Ultra Portable Clicking sound and not showing in Front USB

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I just had my Freeagent Go HD replaced today in warranty with a Goflex ultra portable 500gb usb 2.0 HD. I took it home and plugged into my front usb and it got detected and the lights on the adapter lit up. And then the "Device Connect" and "Device Disconnect" sounds on XP started playing continously. Also there was clicking sound heard on the HD. I removed it and plugged it into the back port and it worked normal. It also worked fine on the laptop with WIn 7. BTW the front USB on my desktop was fully functional for my old FreeAgent GO drive which I replaced and also my friends HD also worked. One more thing- the new HD heats up very quickly.

So can anyone tell me what is the problem because if I get a Clicking sound it may not be a good sign.

Re: GoFlex Ultra Portable Clicking sound and not showing in Front USB

The sounds you described that were coming from the drive when it was attached to the initial port were caused by insufficient power provided by that port. The fact that the drive functions normal on the other two ports supports this.

To check out the temperature of the drive, I would test it with SeaTools:

Our drives are within normal range up to 60 degrees Celcius.

Re: GoFlex Ultra Portable Clicking sound and not showing in Front USB

Yes it was a power supply issue with the front USB. I checked it with my friends PC.

Regarding the temperature, the max temperature went upto 48 C. But the problem was

I had a pouch covering it all the time while using it too. So thats why I felt it was overheated.

I removed the pouch and the temperature was below 40 C.

Thank you once again..
