GoFlex desktop 3tb USB3 and thunderbolt adapter

I have two 3TB Goflex desktop USB 3.0 drives.  I recently bought a thunderbolt desktop adapter and assumed I could swap the drives from the USB adapter to the thunderbolt. - no luck.  It appears that the drive needs to be formatted with the appropriate adapter.  I am using a MacMini i5 and 10.7.4 OSX.  If the drive is formatted on the thunderbolt device - it can only be used with that device.  Same applies with the USB3.

What am I doing wrong.

thx

Re: GoFlex desktop 3tb USB3 and thunderbolt adapter not compatible

Also do not work when I use the THunderbolt Go flex adaptor,

When I format the drive via thunderbolt with exFAT , the Mac report error when I connect it via USB3, the drive content cannot be seen. and vice versa

IF the drive is formated in USB3( using mac or PC) content can be read in PC or MAC freely  but when formated during connection to TBolt nothing can be read on USB3??

I have end up putting the Tbolt adaptor for the mean time

I guess it is not a problem with the 3TB drive, I guess it apply to all.

I use Lion with a i7 MBP17".
