How to move movies from GoFlex to PC

I have a 500Gb GoFlex bought from Dish TV to save movies from my Dish DVR to the Seagate drive.  Now I'd like to move them to my PC in order to burn them to disk to free up space & save them forever (I've read many posts about the GoFlex's suddenly dying and folks losing all their saved movies etc). I haven't found anything about this topic in the forum.   Do I just plug it into my Dell's USB port or do I need software?  Dish didn't send any software with the unit at all or instructions.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: How to move movies from GoFlex to PC

Dish TV may use it's own filesystem, so you may need special software to read the drive. Strange that Dish TV doesn't have instructions for that.

Plug it into your Dell and see if it shows up. If windows won't read it it may still be readable by Linux OS, you could try a Linux Live CD. You might want to try it first with another drive, say a USB thumb drive. You don't want to end up with neither DishTV nor your Dell being able to read the drive.
