Installing 4GB GoFlex Desk external drive

[ Edited ]

After more than an hour of floundering around the SeaGate site I still cannot find installation instructions for my external drive. I don't even have the thing plugged in yet because I have 50Hz 240v AC power supply and I have no way of knowing how to set up for same. The kit comes with a variety of pinsets (including the American style) which indicates the machine can be used on a variety of power supplies. I just don't want to fry the thing before I get to use it! Some machine details which might help: S/N [Edited: Removed personal information per the community rules and regulations.] P/N 9ZQAD5-500 STAC40003000 The SeaGate site doesn't even recognise the model - but it registered it (which is where I got the STAC number). Can someone please get me some instructions. Thanks

Re: Installing 4GB GoFlex Desk external drive

I'm pretty sure the power adapter accepts input voltages from 110 to 250V so that it can be used in any country (hence the variety of pinsets).  But in any case there's a label on the power adapter so you can check for yourself.

Plug it in to power, plug it into computer.

It doesn't need to be any more complicated than plugging in a USB thumb drive (apart from external power). It's just a storage device and it's preformatted so if you have a Windows machine it should be easy.

It will probably autorun and try to install the Seagate software. You don't need the software to use the drive (I don't use it), but if that's what you want then let it install.
