Mac Support - FreeAgent GoFlex Upgrade Cable Kit (STAE101)

Hi. I am a Mac user and a happy owner of a MacBook Pro Unibody with an ExpressCard slot.

I want to ask if the ExpressCard in the FreeAgent GoFlex Upgrade Cable Kit will have Mac support/driver in the near future, and when should we be expecting Mac support in the near future.

I'm exciting that the GoFlex drive have USB 3.0 support, and would love to have USB 3.0 support on my MacBook Pro. Would you agree with me that it would be exciting to have USB 3.0 support for Mac on this upgrade cable kit?

Re: Mac Support - FreeAgent GoFlex Upgrade Cable Kit (STAE101)

We have no announced release data for the Mac drivers and accordingly have no expected date for a Mac compatible USB 3.0 release.  :-(  Sorry about that.

What about FW800?  http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/accessories

Re: Mac Support - FreeAgent GoFlex Upgrade Cable Kit (STAE101)

So, it's just under two years since this last response.  And it seems that Seagate is still dragging its feet with USB 3.0 support for the expresscard on Mac.  I bought this because it was (and still is) listed as an accessory to the GoFlex Pro for Mac.  Yet there is absolutely zero support for Mac.

Other vendors have produced expresscards with supported drivers for Mac.  When is Seagate going to follow them?

Rgds,

Guy

Hi Davies,

Did you try it out in OSX Mountain Lion ? Since Apple themselves have started to support USB 3.0, I am curious to know whether FreeAgent GoFlex Upgrade Cable Kit — USB 3.0 works on OSX Mountain Lion .

Awaiting your reply.

Re: Mac Support - FreeAgent GoFlex Upgrade Cable Kit (STAE101)

THIS IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MOUNTAIN LION :smileymad: Ive been a fan of Seagate harddrives but eversince I got the GoFlex drives I cannot use the exprescard on my Mac (Macbook Pro 17-inch). I found a patched Lacie driver which works but keep getting a kernel panic and it's unstable. I have no idea why Seagate doe not release a simple (ONE FILE KEXT DRIVER) driver for the mac for the GoFlex Express Card. Come on Seagate its one bluddy file - Lacie, Caldigit and Trendnet did it - why cant you. I am seriously considering going to Lacie or Caldigit drives and ditch all my Seagate drivers. NOT HAPPY WITH SEAGATE AT ALL ATM.

Hi All,

Good news, I've bought an excellent cheap USB 3.0 Expresscard compatible with OSX Mountain Lion and Seagate Go flex with USB 3.0 Adapter. Check out my review here - http://blog.indiandragon.in/2012/12/review-asmedia-1042-cheap-usb-30.html

Re: Mac Support - FreeAgent GoFlex Upgrade Cable Kit (STAE101)

Ive seen this thread and I already have an ExpressCard. Why should we go out and buy another one when one does come with the GoFlex Upgrade Kit.

I just dont see why Seagate cannot or wont support Mac when so many users are Mac as well.

Come on Seagate !!!!!

It won't.It would just color the HDD case in white and sell as Mac version. If you want to use your HDD at better speeds you got to use the workarounds.

Re: Mac Support - FreeAgent GoFlex Upgrade Cable Kit (STAE101)

Ive tried every workaround besides bying a new ExpressCard.

I think I might invest in a Caldigit Express Card rather - bye bye Seagate.

Does anyone have the Seagate ExpressCard working properly with the Lacie kext hack?
