I just got the Seagate GoFlex FreeAgent 1TB and I was wondering if I have to install the "Memeo Instant Backup Program" and "Seagate Dahsboard" to use it?
Can I just use Windows Explorer and drag and drop folders that I want to backup, onto the GoFlex Drive, or is it better to use the included program?
Any advice would be appreciated! ![]()

I don't know about which is better, but I do know that you can certainly use the drive without the Dashboard and Memeo, just as a drag and drop. No problem.

sox575,
Memeo Instant Backup is not needed when using your new GoFlex FreeAgent drive. Dragging and dropping files from one destination to the other will work. However, using programs such as Instant Backup provides the luxury of backing up your files automatically without you doing any work. After the initial backup of all of your files, only new files or newly edited files get backed up moving forward. I have found it to be very convenient.

Thanks for the good advice everyone. I appreciate it. ![]()

I have the Memeo Instant Backup install and working, but it mirrors everything I do on my C: drive.
How can I delete a file on my C: drive without it deleting on the external drive?
I need to make room on my C: drive...thanks!

I must be doing something wrong. I have the FreeAgent Go Flex and did my first back up on Dec. 12. Everytime I plug in the drive, it looks like it is backing up every file, all over again, it takes an hour and says Backup in Progress. How can I get to the point where it will only back up any NEW files I have and not do a new backup every time. I checked my backed up file and there is only the one from Dec. 12
I'm almost wanting to uninstall the software and just drag and drop my files once a week, but that seems a pain.

Did you find an answer? I didn't know it was mirroring everything, but I didn't really check.
I'm not sure how to set the setting, but I noticed that it will backup the newest files only on my desktop running Win XP. But on my lap top running Windows 7, the program keeps running and seems to want to back up everything from the beginning. Maybe it's some kind of glitch?
If you find out the answer, please post it here. ![]()

@Robhaerr
Are you using AutoSync or Instant Backup? The behavior you described sounds like you may be using Autosync. Instant Backup should not be deleting any files when deleted from the source destination.
@purcy1 and @sox575
I would like both of you to contact Memeo's support team at http://support.memeo.com. More than likely your log files will need to be reviewed in order to determine the behavior you two are seeing. Only new files or edited files in the directories being monitored should be getting backed up after the initial backup has been done.

OK, if I go to look at the files in my backup, it warns me strenuously not to delete or change any. But I have a couple of transiently-created files that got backed up, which I do not want to have on any media for security reasons (passwords etc.). Is it really going to invalidate my backup if I delete them off the removable disk?
(Sorry if I should do something to create a new thread; this one already has a couple of different questions, & I don't really see off hand anything about the memeo backup.)
Thank you.
